Guest guest
Hi Shay, I haven't used Oxycontin myself, but they gave it to my mom after her Lung Cancer surgery and it helped her. Hi all, I just came back from the doctor's office. I have started that uphill battle again with the horrible pain. As you all know it started a few weeks ago, but for some reason, over the weekend it just got unbearable. I went in today for some cortizone shots, but the doctor said that they didn't help last time, and since I also have diabetes, then the shots would raise my blood sugars, and the risk, and the lack of previous help, just didn't make it worth it. He did give me Oxycontin, has anyone used this before? Did it help? They told me that it was strong and should work for pain, please help me in praying that it will, as I just don't think that I can deal with another bad bout with this right now. My hubby just got a lay off notice at work because they just don't have any work coming in. So with that, and the pain I don't know what I'll do. Guest guest
Shay, I honestly don't know how long it took for the Oxycontin to start working on Mom's pain. I could ask her, but knowing Mom, she'll say " That was 4 years ago and I can't remember yesterday. " lol How long have you been taking it? {{{Hugs}}} Jacqui Jacqui McCallister Age: 39 Dx'd with FMS: 1995, but symptoms since 1984 Additional Illnesses: Papillary Thyroid Cancer spread to lungs, Intra-Occular Migraines, TMJ, Allergies, Periodontitis, Mitral Valve Prolapse, IBS, Arthritis, Possible MPS and CFS, Osteopenia, Bunions, Heel Spur, Light/Smell/Sound Sensitivies, Edema, Insomina, Depression, Panic Attacks Location: Ridgeview, West Virginia USA Divorced, no kids. Guest guest
, Since I haven't taken Oxycontin myself, I can only comment on my mom's experience with it. It didn't give Mom any bad side effects at all, nor did she have trouble getting off it. But, Mom is resistant to most meds and it takes something really major to faze her. Everyone is different. Some folks on the list take Ultram (Tramadol) with no problems. I took it only once and my parents had to carry me and put me to bed and I had a " bad trip " till it got out of my system several hours later. Talk to your pharmacist about the reactions you've had before and see what he/she tells you. {{{Hugs}}} Jacqui Jacqui McCallister Age: 39 Dx'd with FMS: 1995, but symptoms since 1984 Additional Illnesses: Papillary Thyroid Cancer spread to lungs, Intra-Occular Migraines, TMJ, Allergies, Periodontitis, Mitral Valve Prolapse, IBS, Arthritis, Possible MPS and CFS, Osteopenia, Bunions, Heel Spur, Light/Smell/Sound Sensitivies, Edema, Insomina, Depression, Panic Attacks Location: Ridgeview, West Virginia USA Divorced, no kids. Guest guest
Question about oxycotin? My dr. just prescribed it for me but I am a bit Leary about using it! Can anyone who is on it or has been on it tell me if it makes you feel weird or strange in any way? I have had such bad experiences with so many meds and I really don't want to take anything that is going to make me feel this way again....Also my dr. wants me to take it at 1:00 am and then again at 1:00 PM is this the norm for that drug? any advice or your experience with this medication will help me in deciding what I will do about taking it....kind of scares me and I'm assuming it is addictive too.... Guest guest
I have taken oxycontin. It did not work for me but for reasons different from side effects. It is the best pain medication that there is available at this time. I know a lot of people who take it and they feel that with it they can live a fairly normal life. Without it, life is just pain. I have a lot of side effects from medication and had none from this. I am on mscontin and it works great for me. When I took the oxycontin, I took it in the morning and in the evening. It is a time release pill and I am sure your doctor had a good reason for the schedule but I don't know what. The idea with the time release medication is so that you do not have to get up at night and take more pain medication. Why don't you ask him/her why you need to take your medication this way? Take care, Irene co-moderator > > Question about oxycontin? My dr. just prescribed it for me but I am a bit > Leary about using it! Guest guest
I know I haven't introduced myself, but I just wanted to jump in here. I take Oxycontin. It should work right away, doesn't have to build up in your system. If it's not working, you probably need a higher dose. Guest guest
I don't think that it has to build up in your system. My mscontin did not. It is a time release medication and it only lasts for that 12 hours which is why you have to take another one in 12 hours. I am talking about oxycontin. Guest guest
Don't be afraid of it. I think it's the best pain medication on the planet! I am also an Pain Advocate for Purdue Pharma, the makers, because I think that the Oxycontin is an awesome drug. It does not make me feel strange, actually I feel pretty darn good on it. I have not had any bad experiences while taking it. Other pain meds that I have taken make me feel like I have a drug hangover, not the Oxycontin. It is a 12 hour pill, just make sure you take it every 12 hours. Some people, such as myself, it only lasts 8 hours, so I take it every 8 hours. Please don't be afraid of it. It is addictive like any of the other drugs, but it works better than most. Onedae Re: Dr. Appt. > Question about oxycotin? My dr. just prescribed it for me but I am a bit > Leary about using it! Guest guest
Hi Jacqui, I have only been taking it for two days, so I really couldn't say that it's working or anything...your Mom sounds like my Mom...I remember when I was asking her about child birth and pregnancy and she said, how old are you? I'd say...whatever and she'd say, exactly, I can't remember that far back. Guest guest
Jacqui, Thanks for the info on oxycotin. I will talk to the pharmacist and see what he says. I just have such strange reactions to medications that I was concerned about this one. Let you know what he says.
