Yes, it is by Donna . She is quite a good author and she is

considered autistic.

I don't find it that disturbing; actually I found it rather poetic.

Just that she had to develop personalities, I guess is what is

disturbing. I mean, I look at my son and I see my son, not a

completely different personality. I thought that the parts about the

music and the mirror, and especially her poems and writings were

wonderful. <sigh> I just would hate to think that is really what my

son is really going through, you know?

I definitely will! I did not know she had another one out. I must

admit, I was sorry that it ended.

i really enjoyed this book, as well as the later publication somebody, somewhere.

i don't think donna williams has MPD. i think she adopted personas to help cope

with difficult social situations.

I'm reading her book just now Angie. I have to admit , I think it's a

great book. Some of the things she says, describe Andy to a *T*. You

need to remember too, that Donna wasn't dxd with autism until she was

25. So for her there were no early intervention therapies. She's also

written other books.

Somebody Somewhere

Like Colour to the Blind

Autism and Sensing

Autism - An Inside-Out Aooroach.

She's also got a great website

http://www.donna.inuk.com/

I read both books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I read them to get

more insight on Ethan but ended up seeing more of myself in Donna

than Ethan. It was kind of scary.

I didn't know what to make of the other personas, either, it sounded

like MPD to me as well, until I thought about how Ethan turns into a

train when he's trying to cope with a tough situation.

And I've always had " alterni-me's " that I switch to whenever I am

stressed or overloaded. Mostly I just play stories of " other me's " in

my head to distract me/take me away from whatever I can't deal with.

It's very private, I've never shown them to anyone. I am very

protective over my notebooks and things (I have a huge boxful

of 'stories' that my husband knows not to bother) and my husband has

asked and I've just told him I didn't want him reading those " because

I don't want to end up in a padded room. "

When I looked at it from my own perspective it made sense.

The mirror thing was beautiful, but it also kind of scared me. I

can't even bare to look at my own eyes in a mirror, it's always

terrified me. I've always had this weird fear of eyes.

Now you all know I'm a nutball...

Hey.. I think I am pretty NT and I have other personas.. they even

have names..

one of them is Shirley Temple who I just refer to as Shirley.. She

takes over and is cute and funny when I have to go in public and I

feel like dying.

I even curl my hair for this one..

So now, whos the lunatic???

Thanks to all for responding to this. I feel better about it now! I

actually put on a face, so to speak depending on where I am. Also I

play many scenarios in my head, about how I will handle things, which

are usually better than I do! I think one of the reasons I was so

good at geriatric nursing was because I could be whoever their

dementia wanted me to be- grandkid, daughter, doctor (I drew the line

when one resident thought I was a prostitute though!)

Someone wanted to read this book- ellen maybe? You can send me

your address and I'll mail it to you. I got it at Goodwill for 99

cents and I never keep books after I read them so it's just going

back to Goodwill anyway! Let me know.
