To all:

First, I've been reading all the posts for the past few weeks (since I joined the group) and have benefited from a wealth of information so thanks to all for sharing your knowledge and stories. The purpose of my note today is to give an update on my situation and to seek any input from you.

Background - I will be 35 in 2 weeks. I had no idea that I had AS until I attempted to get pg as I had fairly normal periods while on the bcp. After about 6 mths, I asked for diagnostic tests to confirm that I was ok. After acceptable hormone analysis and 2 failed HSG's, my Dr diagnosed me with AS. He could see my uterus on the 2nd HSG and about 80% of it was blocked with tissue. I had an operative hyst on 9/30/02 and had my uterus was punctured during the procedure so I did not get the IUD inserted as planned. An unknown amount of scarring was removed - per my Dr.

Today, I went in for my post-op and had a consultation with my Dr. He proposes the following treatment: complete 30 day supply of premarin - 2.5 MG/day, take 200 MG of progesterone along with the premarin dosage for the last 12 days. He expects I will have a period after this. He wants to wait for 2 cycles to allow time for healing before doing an HSG to assess the success of the surgery and status of my AS. I asked about his experience and he does quite a bit of surgery but only about 1 case of AS per year. I will definitely get a 2nd opinion before proceeding with any more surgery. He said today that there is some chance (probably small) that my uterus will be ok. My question is: should I be patient until an HSG can be done to determine the "status"? He was certainly open to me getting a 2nd opinion but only mentions other doctors in the same group/hospital. I'm considering seeking an A-list doctor for the 2nd opinion and re-thinking my goal of finding a doctor in Houston, TX (I'm already eating my words from a few weeks ago when I was determined to find a Dr. in Houston). Another point my doctor affirmed is that my ovaries and tubes are in great shape so surrogacy is an option. It is too early for me to consider this but we'll see. I also have made an appt with a fertility specialist in December but I'm not sure he will have the AS expertise that I will need.

This about sums my update up. Any feedback is welcome. Thanks,

Kim C.
