Guest guest
same band. Maggie was fit at 13 mo and got the helmet at 14 mo. They told us to expect 9 mo. (out by May 06) Basically, we are guinea pigs to try it this late into her growth. But Dr Singhal and our Hanger group agreed it was worth a try. We agreed for her personal self image it was definitely worth a try. She's definitely rounding out on top... she'll probably never be able to wear those hard plastic headbands that sit behind your ears... but is that missing out on anything? I hated those as a kid! ) Otherwise, nobody stares anymore when her helmet isn't on... her hair is growing out and she looks like a normal noggin' of a 20 mo old! Guest guest
We saw Dr. Singhal also. Do you see ette or Tom? We used paulette and were very pleased with Jenna's correction. We were originally told Jenna would wear hers 4-6 months but she was done after 3. She was banded from age 9 to 12 months. Angie and Jenna Re: birthmarks > same band. Guest guest
Did it take a whole month to get the band???!!! It should only be 2 weeks max. Have they considered a new band for fresh holding points? CT does lots of older babies and they get new bands every 3-4 months. I'm glad you've seen improvement > > > dd Maggie in StarBand since Aug 05 (banded at 14 mo) > > > Maggie was adopted from China in May 05 > > > We're making progress SLOWLY but we have progress !! > > > Scheduled to stop Band in May 06 unless 2 future appt show no > growth > > > > > > > , > > > > Sorry I can't help you with the birthmark thing. Guest guest
My daughter has a birthmark in the middle of her back, on her spine. It's kind of strawberry colored. Our neuro wants to give her an MRI because it's right on her spine. I'm deciding whether to do it since they would have to put her under complete anesthesia to do it. Guest guest
Yeah that's a red flag for me too. The orthomerica website says fit within 2 weeks. Hmmm. Also, the Starband is approved for use in infants up to 18 months so why you child is a guinea pig would tell me they don't usually treat children her age. Even though at 20 months she is out of the FDA approved window so maybe they were referring to her graduation age versus start age. Cranial Tech bands up to 24 months. We've had a number of older infants banded with STARs, Hangers and DOCs. They've had good success. I'm glad your daughter is seeing improvement. The length of time in the same band is also concerning. We'e heard of 6 months in a STAR or Hanger (only 4 months tops for DOC). So 9 months seems a bit long. I would think that it would be worn out by then. na, 2 1/2 yrs, DOC Grad, Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, 8 months, DOC band 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com > > > > dd Maggie in StarBand since Aug 05 (banded at 14 mo) > > > > Maggie was adopted from China in May 05 > > > > We're making progress SLOWLY but we have progress !! > > > > Scheduled to stop Band in May 06 unless 2 future appt show no > > growth > > > > > > > > > > , > > > > > > Sorry I can't help you with the birthmark thing. Guest guest
Interesting that others see cafe au lait areas on their apraxic kids too. It never occurred to me that a link could even be there. Our 3YO DS1 has a barely noticeable, but large area of slightly darker skin all down his right arm and partially onto his chest. Our DS2 doesn't have any, nor do I, or DH. FWIW: I do have a close friend with a similar in size/location cafe au lait area and thru her current age 40YO, she has never had any speech delay issues. > > ph has a large cafe au lait spot on his back and several smaller > > ones on his shoulder.
