Yes, my sister has IgAN too, but she has a very very mild and fortunately

benign case of it. I seriously doubt she will ever progress to end stage.

Janelle,

It's not unusual to have some blood in the urine during or after a

severe URI. If it's a strep infection, it's called post-strep

glumerulonephritis, and it usually clears up a few weeks. This happened

with my younger son (my older son has IgAN and I donated a kidney to

him) when he was in the ER with a severe strep infection and an

abscessed tonsil. They did a routine urinalysis before releasing him

and found blood. I panicked and was ranting to the doctor about how I

didn't have another kidney to give. The poor doc had no idea why I was

having this fit, and later it seemed rather humorous. Fortunately,

after getting his tonsils out, that son has had no further problems

with blood in his urine. Let's hope it's similar for your brother.

Oh no Elwira,

I didn't know you had that worry on your mind! I think you are very smart

to take Radek to your neph. Please let us know what the doc says. You must

be worried sick...

Big hugs,

Cy

ODP: IGAN within families

Dear Janelle, Dear friends,

I do hope that IGAN is not inherited or in most cases will not be inherited

or pasted to our kids...

But as a mother I am also very scared...I was diagnosed 2 years ago, my

kidney function was good ....My neph always wanted me to be careful about my

son Radek and to do him blood and urine works from time to time...This year

Radek had problems with kidney stones but as the stones are removed right

now all his lab works should be back to normal....His creatine is still 1.3

, there is still blood in his urine, so I decided to take him to my neph

this Thursday( as my visit is scheduled ). We will see what my doctor

decides about Radek.....

Hope it will not occur to be IGAN.....

All the best, love,

Elwira

I'm sorry I just found this post. My sister also has IgAN. After I

was dx they did labs on my sisters every year, and one year she

started showing symptons, they did the biopsy when she was 10 and

she's been on BP meds ever since. My IgAN is a bit farther along

then hers, thanks to me being pregnant. We have a half sister who's

baby was born with kidney problems and she blames our dad, but he's

healthier then anyone I know.
