Guest guest
Barry there is a list of questions to ask your neph in the files section on the Yahoo Groups site. Here is a copy of them from an old post as I can't seem to get into the Yahoo groups site right now. Thank our lovely and wonderful Cy for this list. ) Questions to ask your Nephrologist 1) What's your urine protein? How is it measured (dipstick, pro/creat ratio, 24 hour)? Why is it being measured that way instead of some other way? What significance does the doc read into those values? 2) What metrics does he base that mid-term conclusion on (i.e. GFR, biopsy, other)? 3) Can he explain any biopsy results (if a biopsy was done)? 4) What's your creatinine level? What range can you expect your results to fall in? When do you start worrying? How have they changed so far? 5) What markers does he look at for disease progression? 6) How often does he think the disease should be assessed this at this time? How often does he want to do blood work and urinalysis? 7) What about treatment? How does he treat his other IgAN patients? Why? 8) What's your hemoglobin and hematocrit? If these are abnormal, what does he recommend? 9) Any dietary restrictions? 10) What is your blood pressure? How often should you be taking it? If hypertension is a problem, what solutions can he offer? 11) What's the best way to get lab results to you? 12) What medications should you be taking? 13) What is your potassium level? 14) What is your creatinine clearance level? Also make sure you get a copy of your labs to date...it's always good to have your values in case of emergency and just for your records. I always keep a running list of questions in my notebook with my b/p tracking results as I think of them. That way I don't forget anything while I'm in the office. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for asking he was very unconcerned about my questions you must remember that he is very abrupt and makes me feel im lucky to be in his presence !!! He said there is no change in my condition and will see me again in six months. In England we don't get print outs of our lab results its more like take a sneak look over there shoulder, I did see that my createnine was 113 but he never had results of 24 urine test said he will post results......and then said he will see me in another 6 months So I think that was a good visit. Barry Re: Visit to neph tommorrow - Questions to Ask? Hi Barry, Did you get your questions answered at your Neph appointment? I sure do hope you got news that all is stable. Let us know how you are doing.
Guest guest
Thanks Amy Re: Visit to neph tommorrow - Questions to Ask? Barry your creatinine level looks good at 113. I hope you can continue at that level for a good long time. I'm sorry you seem to have a primadonna for a neph...perhaps if you bring him a large bouquet of roses next visit he might give you some of his precious time to answer questions. If you have a follow up in 6 months then, like Pierre said, there probably wasn't much to concern him...therefore it shouldn't concern you. I like Pierre's idea of getting the results from your GP, that's just darn sneaky. Hang in there and I'm happy to hear you had an o.k. visit.
