Predinsone yeast connection??

Is there any connection between being on prednisone and being susceptible to

yeast infections? I ask because I've had a horrid white coating with

sorness in my mouth on and off since being on the stuff and now an on going

feminine yeast problem for the past few months that doesn't seem to be

responding to my normal coursre of treatment for such things. Any one else

out there have yeast problems and what have you found that works for them.

Thanks

Amy

HI Amy,

I am sorry I knew you didn't do dairy but had a " mature moment " and it

slipped my mind when I wrote. The tablets are just as good.

Don't worry about the slip and falls...as long as you keep getting up again

:-)

It IS hard to resist all those delicious summer fruits..oh to have no

potassium restrictions! This time of the year I hate my dietary restrictions

more

than any other time. Peaches, nectarines, cherries, apricots...all so yummy and

so high in potassium!

I take live acidophilus tablets that are in a non-dairy base on a

daily basis (same stuff that is in yogurt)...perhaps I can try to up my dose

and see if that helps.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have severe reactions (no not me...that's

so strange...not) to all the over the counter creams for yeast infections so

I normally use tea tree oil with water externally and herbal tablets. I'll

give my GP a call and see if there is anything she can get me on to knock

this stuff down. I hate, hate, hate being itchy...not to mention sore. :P

I'm sure stress plays a part in this cycle too. Not to mention the fact

that my dietician has me filling in my calories with lots of fruit,

something you are supposed to limit when you have yeast problems. Balance,

balance, balance....slip and fall! LOL! :o)

Thanks again

I know what you mean, I'm dreading potassium restrictions. So far I'm not

technically restricted but they do want me to limit my high potassium stuff

just to be safe. Can you do peach nectar?? It's on my low potassium list

along with canned pears. For a tasty Summer treat freeze the can of pears

(in the can) overnight. Then pop the frozen pears in a blender along with a

can of peach nectar and a bit of milk (or soy milk) and a dash of vanilla

extract. Blend until smooth and re-freeze for a few hours. It turns into a

very tasty peach sorbet. :o) My daughter has been making these for us the

past few weeks.

Amy,

I had this problem when I was on prednisone as well. My throat

started getting really sore and I was having the same feminine

problems. My doctor told me that my sore throat was from a " yeast

infection " in my mouth and throat. The more technical term for the

sore throat was called thrush. She put me on medicine that I

swished and swallowed for a week and it cleared up my mouth and also

gave me pills to clear up the " other " yeast infection. Janelle.
