Lynn,

Did you change shampoo recently? That is pretty weird. I'm glad

he's better now!

Hi! My son is not in a band, we are repostioning, so I don't know

what the inside of the band is made of, but could he be allergic? I

used to work at the children's hospital here and many children are

allergic to latex and have that kind of contact reaction. It

probably doesn't have latex, but maybe something else he is sensitive

to?

Ouch!! Sorry, Lynn, we never had an experience like that. I would

think that it would be red again after putting the band back on if

it were pressure or growth related though. I'm curious to hear what

your clinician thinks.

Lynn,I've read the other replies - how about heat rash? He had been out of it a few days maybe he got over heated? Since it went away the next morning?! Otherwise I would lean towards change in shampoo or possibly the alcohol used to clean it wasn't fully dry before it went back on his head?? Once alcohol is dry it's benign but if still wet it can cause an irritation. If it were a growth spurt then it wouldn't have gone away.Keep us posted and let us know if you figure it out.mom to Keirsten, 4 months Repo & tortna, 2 yrs DOC Grad Feb 04 and Tort Resolvedwww.thefilyaws.com/plagio.html>> seems like this is THE topic lately. dylan first had the one spot > on his cheek and we waited and called CT, etc. it faded and went > away and didn't return. then he got sick and it was off for a few > days (except for brief intermittent hours of the day when non-> feverish) and when we came back from CT on Thu and had the helmet on > all day- the next morning his whole head was bright red- really red > from the "sideburn" area over his right cheek back to the back side > of his head- the bottom of his skull (where end of helmet is) and > lighter red over to the other side- it looked awful. and it didn't > fade- not until this morning when it was light pink so I put the > helmet on for a couple hours to see if it got worse- it didn't, in > fact, it went away completely- except for a small spot on the base > of his skull which I'm watching closely. > > okay- thanks for blathering, what's your question Lynn-> well, what I'm wondering is- was the helmet too tight? was it a > growth spurt? anyone else remember this happening?> > it seems like it's too vast to have been pressure-related so my only > guess is that it was growth/tightness related- I'll call CT tomorrow > but of course- it happened on a weekend > > thanks ahead for the feedback > > Lynn> mom to Dylan, 7mo, DOC baby> Indiana>

Hi Lynn,

It doesn't sound growth/tightness related to me at all b/c the area

you are describing is too large. My first thought is heat rash,

which is quite common. For this they often suggest a little low

precentage hydrocortisone cream. Does Dylan have really sensitive

skin? Did you change shampoos or something? Are you only washing

the band w/alcohol and making sure it's completely dry before

putting it back on him? It definitely sounds to me like he's having

some kind of skin reaction to the band though, I really don't think

it sounds pressure related at all. Let us know what happens.
