Guest guest
I've heard diet soda has something in it that makes you crave carbs. Try slowly day by day to substitute a different drink for diet cola. My husband was drinking 8 liters per week! He started subbing sun tea. Much healthier! He still drinks diet Coke, but in much less quantities. Guest guest
It doesn't scare me. There was a spot on the Today show about it a day or so aga and there is nothing wrong with it. I simply cannot give that up. Doreen Re: Diet soda and new to this. Just google aspartame, that should scare anyone away from diet soda. There's a lot of good information in the files section on what you can and can't have. It is overwhelming at first but once you start to feel better it does get easier.>> What's wrong with diet soda? Guest guest
I check out snopes all of the time, but I completely disagree about the aspartame thing. You can't believe everything you read on the internet. If you are interested in health related topics there are many books to check out about the effects of art. sweeteners. The reason they are fighting the image is because they use those products, not because they care about the consumer. When you are nursing/pregnant you are told not to have soda, mostly because of the caffeine. But, my doctor and my sister's doctor (two different docs in two different areas) both said if you are going to drink soda when pregnant/nursing, don't drink diet. It's not healthy for the baby. If it wasn't bad for you, why would they tell you that? Like I said before, everything in moderation. If you want to drink soda, drink the regular stuff, just not often. Guest guest
I respect your opinion and the fact that you feel strongly about it, but it doesn't change the fact that I disagree. There is reputable evidence on both sides so we could both be right, or both be wrong. This is one of those things that people should decide for themselves. Personally, I don't see a problem with drinking it but I am okay with you deciding it's bad. I just don't think it's fair that everyone ganged up on Doreen and told her that she shouldn't drink diet soda. All she wanted to know was if it had gluten in it. She's entitled to her opinon about diet beverages just the same as you and I are. And she deserved an answer...not lectures (and I don't mean for you to take that personally, there were a number of comments about it). No one jumps on people asking about cookies and donuts, those aren't healthy either.Rhiannon wrote: I check out snopes all of the time, but I completely disagree about the aspartame thing. Regardless of what you believe about diet soda, drinking water or decaf green tea would be much healthier. ly, I find that a short walk and a couple cups of tea gives me far more satisfaction than a can of soda. Sure, I drink soda on occasion, but I know when I do that I'm trading off physical comfort for emotional. Sodium benzoate is quite common in canned soda. I know for a fact that it makes my fibro pain worse. High fructose corn syrup triggers IBS-D and skin sores. Of the artifical sweeteners, I can only have Splenda and in large amounts it makes my stomach oogy. Carbonated drinks in general are horrid for one's bones. When I want a can of soda, I have to decide if the liabilities are worth the emotional satisfaction. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't. When you're already sick, being healthier is the only way to actually feel even a tiny bit better overall. You don't have to run marathons, but you do have to take care of yourself. Guest guest
I checked the link. It doesn't say what it is sweetened with. As a diabetic, diet soda with 0 calories and 0 carbs is what i am looking for. **The fruit spritzers are sweetened with the juice in them. Example, black cherry has several different juices including pear and pineapple in the blend. The site says it's a full fruit serving. So perhaps as a diabetic you'd have to count one spritzer as your fruit for the meal or day. My in-laws are diabetic [Type 2] and they do have some fruit, just not very often. Good luck with the changes. You can do it. dawne
