Okay, ladies, here I go again...

is 6 weeks old today. He hasn't had a stool in about 48 hours now. He

had two horribly fussy nights with tons of crying and spitting up. Last

night I covered his head with a light blanket after he had been nursing

awhile, and walked and walked and he went back to sleep. When he woke up 2

hours later he ended up on the breast almost constantly for about 3 hours,

slept for an hour and then was nursing nonstop again. So I put him on our

cheapo scale and it says that he's losing weight again!! Looks like appx a 4

oz drop. The last time this happened (about 3 weeks ago), my l.c. told me to

also try to pump 15 mins per side after each feeding if I could and give him

the EBM in a bottle as well. I didn't then, fearing nipple confusion, but I

tried that today. I only managed to pump about ONE ounce total in that 30

minutes of pumping!!! So now I am truly worried that I don't have enough

milk.

Any advise, suggestions or just plain old kind words???

I am starting to take Brewer's Yeast again. I had run out so I hadn't taken

any in a few weeks. What about fenugreek? Should I get some of that also,

and how much do you take how often?

Thanks and blessings,

Janece

>Pumping is not necessarily an indication of how much milk you have,

>especially if you weren't using a good quality pump. What did you use?

I just have a Medela mini electric pump, so that's what I used. We have his

6 week check up appointment on Wednesday, so I am just nursing him as much

as he will between now and then.

Now here is is late and he's so sleepy that I can't get a decent nursing

from him, but I know in a few hours, he'll be back at the breast nonstop for

3 or 4 hours!

Yes, he is wetting plenty of diapers, thank goodness. He is acting normally

also.

Thank you for your help!

I would think if you pumpedthis *after* a nursung, that's pretty

good!

And if he's spitting up a lot of milk, then he's getting milk.

But spitting up alot and weight loss would probably send me off to

the doctor.

Lack of bowel movements for 48 hrs in and of itself is probably no

cause for alarm and isn't necessarily indicative of low supply. Is

he wetting diapers?

Janece,

At six weeks old it could be a growth spurt or he just had a bad night,

as for the spitting up that is normal unless it isn't really him and it could

be dairy or just something that you ate(?) My babies are never affected by

what I eat so I am really no help on this. The constant nursing is something

that I am familiar with would be at my breast for hours sometimes it

wasn't that she was actually *eating* she was there for comfort, and the

constant sucking always helps with the supply. I personally would throw away

the <cheapo scale> it will just make you worry, when you don't need to.

Pumping is never a good source of knowing how much milk you've got, your baby

can get the milk out way better, I myself would sit there and pump and pump

and pump looking at the thing and nothing would come out and so my fear of

not having any would actually not give me any (does that make sense) ? I have

never taken brewers yeast but I have taken fenugreek I took two pills three

times a day and ya know it did seem to help (because I thought it would so it

did or because they really do I don't know) but there's alot of BF moms that

swear by them, When I first started taking them they gave me a headache so I

quit taking them for a few days then I lowered my dose 1 in the morning 2 in

afternoon 1 at night and that seemed to help me with the headaches, stick

with it things will work out!!! your doing great!!!!!!!! the first few months

seem to really be the hardest *for me* so I know how worrisome things can

get, just relax as much as possible and enjoy that little angel:)
