Take me, I no longer use ASL interpreters in classroom, as I have been " able " to follow along with lipreading and typists. Guest guest
Pam... I ve been waiting nearly 2 years for my CI.. I was denied for one last year. due to the fact that they never had research on prelingual deaf getting ci's. plsav42@... wrote: In a message dated 10/26/2004 11:56:16 AM Alaskan Daylight Time, lisak70@... writes: > I was told that if my case is denied, I (and my CI > center) will receive a letter from Medicaid. Guest guest
Yes I agree with you gals on that one. I hope THIS TIME people on CI Hear can send me written/signed testimonies/letters about the CI that has helped them to hear, and especially those that are prelingual deaf and have gotten CI's... mailed to my home address and I can send them along with the request from the CI team to Medicaid so they will gulp and approve my CI request this time. spottedlee@... wrote: In a message dated 10/27/2004 1:01:33 AM Pacific Daylight Time, plsav42@... writes: Hopefully that argument won't hold water much longer since it appears that more and more prelingual deaf are getting ci's and benefitting from them. Guest guest
, Of all the many who were trying to get approval for CI implants, you surely are " the " most qualified, or very close to it. I am praying for you to get approval quickly and know you'll let us all know when it comes in. I agree with to put a " rush " on your request as you've been patient above and beyond the call of duty. I would certainly take advantage of anything that may speed this process up. Good Luck my friend, Gayle > , > > Forgive my bluntness, but please *please* do not tell me this!!! Guest guest
Hi Gayle, Thanks for your vote of confidence!! <smile> Yesterday my audi e-mailed me and said that my application has just been forwarded to the Medical Director at Medicaid for possible approval. ( " Possible approval. " I like the sound of that!!) I've decided to leave things as they are for the moment. If my audi hasn't heard back from Medicaid over the next few days, she will have my surgeon call to place a rush on my case. With any luck, I should receive some news by the end of this week or next!! Guest guest
On this list I read about prelingual deaf who grew up lipreading and speaking and later benefiting from CI. Are there prelingual deaf who grew up with sign language (without speech) who have benefited from CI? Guest guest
Yes, someone mentioned 2 or 3 people whose first language was ASL, who are now advocates for one of the CI companies, now speaking and hearing well enough to use the telephone. implanted 10/20, " turning on " pending v. v. v. soon On Wed, 27 Oct 2004 17:07:48 -0500, <wdywms@...> wrote: > > On this list I read about prelingual deaf who grew up lipreading and > speaking and later benefiting from CI. Perhaps it would help to ask to speak to the supervisor of the person who is hedging like that.. Just say very nicely, " May, I speak to your supervisor please? Guest guest
Alice, I called my CI center earlier. The secretary hasn't heard anything yet but will check on my application this afternoon and e-mail me with further information. My audi also e-mailed me a few minutes ago to say that their insurance specialist has been notified to check into my case. I just got off the phone with Medicaid and was given no information about the status of my application. The person I spoke to said this information cannot be given out but even if it could, their computers are down. (Hmmm...)When I called last week, the person on the phone was able to give me specific information about the pending status of my application. I think the person I spoke to today is was lying *and* trying to cover her derriere. <smile> Should I call them back and see if I can get someone else on the line? Guest guest
Pam, I just called Medicaid back and their computers *are* down. The person on the phone gave me the same " line " about contacting my CI center to find out about the approval or denial of my application. Interestingly enough, the first person I spoke to was named Janette. The second person was named Jen. Hmmm.... I'll call back tomorrow morning, early afternoon and late afternoon until someone gives me the information I'm looking for. I've been patient enough and I'm not going to rest until I get a decision one way or the other. Guest guest
I, personally have never dealt with Medicaid so let's see what others on this list can suggest. You should have some word by now I would think but they will stall as long as they can. Let us know what you hear from your audiologist. I'm glad you are still smiling. Guest guest
Hi Alice, I'm pretty certain that I will hear something over the next several days -- or next week at the very latest. I'll keep you posted. CI candidate awaiting insurance approval and surgery date
Guest guest
My sister had Medicaid in Michigan when she was implanted 3 years ago..She got her approval before I got my private insurance approval! The ci center took care of everything for her. Guess different states work differently. Also good news for Michigan Medicaid recipients.. The program has once again begun covering hearing aids as of October 1 2004 after they had cut all hearing programs for a time. , Goodl luck. I know it's hard to be patient when you've already been waiting so long, but hang in there a bit longer..It'll happen and when it does, the wait will have been worth it. Hugs, silly MI In , " alice " <alice@a...> wrote: > I, personally have never dealt with Medicaid so let's see what others on this list can suggest. Guest guest
I hope they aren't sending all that work over to India like too many other customer service jobs. > Re: Insurance Update >Pam, >I just called Medicaid back and their computers *are* down. Guest guest
Tina, I don't think that would happen. The two people I spoke to the other day didn't give me any information, so they may as well have been from India. <smile> I'm going to call again today to see what else I can find out. Maybe their computers are back up and running today. <grin> CI candidate awaiting insurance approval and surgery date
