Way off topic: help on herbs with kids

Hi all,

Just appealing to the wisdom of the moms in this group who've used herbs and

alternative medicine with kids.

My three and a half year old daughter has a really, really high fever--yesterday

it was 104.6 orally and tylenol only brought it down to 103. Her temp is

already 103.8 again this morning.

I know this is a virus because my son had it last week and sustained a fever of

around 104 for almost four days. The docs (I called about my daughter already)

tell me that the flu virus kids are catching here mean a high, high fever for

five days. They recommend alternating tylenol and motrim every three hours for

up to 24 hours, bringing her in if it hits 105, and waiting out the five days.

I'm not giving her so much medicine, but am giving her fever reducers when her

temp goes above 104 because she is so uncomfortable.

Our homeopath (who is also an M.D. ) called last night and had us give her

belladona, which hasn't seemed to help. He's calling again this morning and

might have another remedy in mind.

I'm wondering about giving Scarlett a few drops of elderberry? I know that this

is the classic flu herb, but I've never tried it in a kid. Plus, she already

has belladonna in her system and, when her fever reaches that scary 104 + I do

give her tylenol or motrin.

While STryker was able to ride out the high temps without too much discomfort,

Scarlett is miserable. She barely slept all night (me either, of course) and

has been crying off and all all day since yesterday morning. She's really,

really miserable, so if I can find a way to bring down her fever, I'd like to.

What do you think, those experienced witth this: would elderberry help? I use

it on myself with good success during the flu, but haven't tried it on a child.
