I cannot add more HC because the > prescribing doctor is not cooperative if you can find the book 'from fatigued to fantastic', show him page 217 where teitelbaum writes 'the cortef should be doubled during periods of acute stress'. it says basically the same thing in 'amalgam illness' and in 'safe uses of cortisol' by jefferies. just a thought. i know how stubborn doctors can be. and if I take more, my gut falls > apart. i wonder if there is anything that could be done to help your gut to heal. do you always take the hc with food? Guest guest
Gladioli, Yes, you can take adrenal cortex extract with hydrocortisone, because the adrenal cortex extract doesn't have hydrocortisone in it, it just provides some of the nutrients that the adrenals need to work better. If you can get by with 15-20 mg. of HC per day, you probably still have some adrenal function left, and your adrenals may respond to being given adrenal cortex extract. If your adrenals were healthy, they would put out a lot more cortisol than normal under conditions of stress. The 15-20 mg. of HC you take just takes care of routine adrenal requirements, it's not enough to support you in conditions of high stress. Ever heard of stress dosing with HC, when you take extra HC during times of extra stress, such as illness, surgery, or extreme emotional distress? You're hypoadrenal now because you're not getting enough cortisol for the stress your body is under; your requirements have increased tremendously. It's perplexing that you say your gut falls apart when you take higher doses of HC. I thought corticosteroids were one of the meds that really helped colitis & Crohn's patients feel better. Hydrocortisone is available without prescription from overseas sources. Lynn > Hi All, > I have mercury/arsenic toxicity/adrenal > hypofunction/hypothyroid/IBD/MCS/and the list goes on. Guest guest
Hi Lynn! From what I have read, hydrocortisone is known to bother the stomach in some poeple. Personally, I used to let it disolve in my mouth to circumvent any contact with my stomach and never had an trouble in that respect. The biutter taste only lasts a minute and one can get used to it. Also, Gladioli, I almost hate to mention this, but I was not able to handle hardly anything when I got on hydrocortisone. In certain ways I was almost worse off on it than off. I had to switch to prednisolone and then did much better as far as meltdowns, crying jags, etc...all that you are talking about and more. In fact that all cleared up. The only problem is that predisolone is hard on the liver. When I really needed it, only the prednisolone would work well enough for me. You could be different.....that was just my own personal experience. I am now finally off of all of the corticosteroids. Yay! ~Inga > > It's perplexing that you say your gut falls apart when you take > higher doses > of HC. Guest guest
Gut problems can be exacerbated with pred or h/c at lower doses...some people have talked about this on the NTH adrenal group. I felt the same thing was happening to me...I felt it made my dysbiosis worse, I got a runny nose, craving for sweets, feeling spacey. Another major symptom I've had since being on h/c is mental apathy but I'm still not really sure how much of this is due to poor phase 1 liver detox which deals with hormones, or thyroid related, or candida. I feel it has improved a bit recently, I'm on 2 grains armour now so maybe this is helping, I'm not taking too high a dose of h/c though, just 12.5mg. Guest guest
Hi! Gladioli66- You've already got some thoughtful answers. You might want to find a used copy of a superb book, *Safe Uses Of Cortisol*, by Jeffries, to read and to share with your doc. I take between 20 and 40 mg of H/C per day, and also stress-dose. Taking care to eat something with the H/C helps me a lot. Also, Milk of Magnesia and water are my best friends, of late... Good thing to be cautious of licorice. It doesn't increase the amount of cortisol, it just keeps it circulating (unused) longer. Licorice can cause tremendous spikes of high BP that is difficult to resolve - and headaches (ask me how I know about both side-effects.) I know it's really hard to figure out how to take care on top of feeling crummy. I'd trust the folks on the Freq-Dose, A-M, or NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENAL lists much more than a doc (except Jeffries ;-) ) regarding input on cortisol, at this point. Sorry you feel so crummy. Hope this helps, ....
