accutane

To the people who are having success with accutane:

Did your face break out (forehead in particular)?

Did it cause any increase in dryness?

If so, how long till you noticed a change for the better?

Whether by coincidence or not, since I've been on the accutane, my forehead

broke out in an acne-like state and I cannot keep my skin moisturized for the

life of me.

This has been frustrating. Since I've really attempted to " control " this, my

condition has gotten worse.

Has anyone had any luck with NOT washing their face? Again, around the time I

started doing this every day, my face has gotten worse and much drier. I've

never had this type of dryness in my life.

There is evidence, I'm told by my derm, that taking a moderate dose

of Vitamin E can mitigate dryness associated with accutane.

I didn't really notice any increased breakouts, nothing on the

forehead at all. There should be an increase in dryness since

Accutane decreases oil production, if you take enough it shuts the

oil glands down. But on 15 mg a day I'm only getting drier lips and

slightly drier skin, barely noticeable on the skin probably because I

had pretty oily skin to begin with. It took a few weeks before I

could see any real changes, but I noticed my lips just slightly dry

in just over a week. I gently wash my face morning & night with Oil

of Olay Foaming Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. Did you have oily skin

before the Accutane? What does your dermatologist say? Have you

talked to him/her? Your dose sounds very low but some people react

to very small amounts of pharmaceutical drugs.

I would characterize my skin as normal as far as dryness/oily. Never

really noticed a problem one way or the other. In fact, up until

reading that people with rosacea should wash their face, I never had

to wash my face at all. I haven't talked to my derm yet, as I was

waiting to see if the accutane had any positive effect. I'm also

thinking of seeing another one just to see if there are any fresh

ideas for what's going on. I like my current derm a lot, he's cool and

seems to care, yet my condition has only gotten worse in his care.

It's sad to say, but I'd go back to my previous condition (just

redness as opposed to acne breakout) in a heartbeat.

Good Lord! Thanks for the update on Accutane. Just goes to show there are

side efffects for every medication out there. A friend of mine was on it for

cystic acne about 5 years ago and she was incredibly depressed, but then

again she has always been prone to that anyway.

Good Luck to All,

Beth
