Guest guest
I didn't give anything but bm and never had a problem. Breastmilk is considered a clear liquid, so also fine when the baby is having any kind of stomach trouble or sickness where you are told to only give clear liquids. My doctor told me that I 'could' give water if I wanted to but it was absolutely not necessary. When I had my first one, I was told at 4 months he wasn't gaining well enough and had to start giving him food. I was crushed, but did it as I didn't know any better. Turns out he was just a slow gainer, he wore 12 month clothes at 12 months old. With that and other incidents, I changed pediatricians with my 2nd (same office, different partner) who was VERY supportive of breastfeeding, he'd tell me what I could offer if I wanted to, but always with a very emphatic, but s/he is doing just great on breastmilk alone. The other 3 went 6 months with no bottles at all, no juice, no formula, not even ebm. I did then offer juice occasionally. With this one, I plan to go from breast to sippy cup, time will tell! Guest guest
Joan, I live in Tucson, AZ where it is incredibly hot and dry. I have never thought about offering anything other than BM. I just read something the other day that said it is plenty to keep baby hydrated through the summer. I can't imagine your Dr telling you to give your baby juice at 2 months! That seems pretty early. I read the other day on something I got in the mail that signs baby is ready for cereal are that they can sit with assistance and that they have doubled their birth weights. I wouldn't get in any hurry to give your baby anything other than BM right now. Tina and Blake 4-2-

Guest guest
Nothing other than bm, bf babies don't need extra water. My MIL tried to argue with me about this when Keely was 6 months old. We live in Northern Alberta for goodness sake, there's no chance of her dehydrating from the heat, we don't even need air conditioning here lol Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93, Keely 12-5-97 & Rowan 3-15-00! Guest guest
>do you know where you can get a good baby good grinder?? Use a fork to mash foods for your baby. Fork-mashed bananas were a favorite with mine when they were starting solids. Sweet potatoes (baked whole), avocados, and foods naturally loaded with vitamins are great starter foods. Guest guest
For bananas it is so easy to just mash them with a fork! For fruits, pears, apples, peaches, etc. you can steam these and peel the skin away then puree in a blender or food processor. The same with veggies. You can steam green beans, peas, carrots and bake in the oven squash and sweet potatoes and scoop out the squash and sweet potatoes. You can basically mash these with a fork. The green beans and peas can be pureed in a blender or food processor. Green beans are very fibrous. ~ M. ~ BestFedBaby@... Guest guest
I bought a l'il Oskar with my last baby and loved it, got it for about $10 and also use it for many other small chopping jobs. If you run it longer it pretty much purees the food, as they get ready for chunks you just give it a little whiz and it's just right.
