Guest guest
Hello, Just joined the group. I will be having my second I-131 ablation on Oct. 1. Very hypo right now, all while taking care of a new puppy. I just wanted some reassurance from others who have had to have I-131 twice, let alone surgery twice. My original throidectomy was Oct. 2001, and I had a modified neck dissection this June. Took out 15 nodes, 4 positive. I will be receiving 150 this time, instead of 100. Dreading it. I was very sick last time with nausea and vomiting. I think just hearing from others will help. I feel physically and emotionally fine when on my Synthroid. Can't wait to get back on it. Look forward to replies. Thank you, Marilee
Guest guest
Marilee - Welcome to the group. Were you on a low iodine diet before your first ablation? My original cancer was not as extensive as yours, but I didn't know enough to do the diet before my first treatment on (100 mCi). When I had my first follow up scan, everyone assumed it would be negative, but there was uptake in the thyroid bed, most likely unablated remnant. This time, I had done a strict LID for two weeks, had a second ablation (also 100 mCi). I had a follow up scan earlier this year, and it was clean. I didn't have a problem either time with nausea, but others do, and there are certain things you can do. I think back to both my hypo times and the new puppy times.. combined you must be the poster child for incredibly tired!!! > > > I will be receiving 150 this time, instead of 100. Dreading it. Make sure your docs all know that.. not just read it in the charts but address that with them, there is stuff they can give you for both the nausea and vomiting.. its bad enough to be radioactive and hypo without spewing it all over.. so ask... Marilee -- good luck.. and once you are full of RAI.. stay clear of that puppy like you would from a baby..!.. I've only had one ablation (and I sure hope thats all I have) but I can empathize with you... its no fun being hypo and awaiting RAI. but do all you can to get your docs to address the nausea. barb TT 8/99 RAI 4/00 Clean Scans 12/00 5/

Guest guest
Yes I was on a low-iodine diet for two weeks. Should be on it about three weeks by the time of the scan. My doc felt that sine I-131 doesn't readily uptake in the lymph nodes, my original dose of 100 might not have been enough. > > > Hello, > > > > Just joined the group.
