To me, since there is a possibility, it is a good idea to do routine checks on our children to make sure they are not spilling protein. She must be very bright because it is very hard to get into UCLA Medical school. That is quite an accomplishment. You will have lots to celebrate in June. Anesthesiology is a good specialty. It will give her flexibility if she ever decides to work full-time after she has her own family. I hope my daughter gets into one of the UC medical schools because the tuition is so much less than USC. My daughter is very very happy at USC though so I can't complain. I am sorry though that she has discovered her urine is abnormal. Hopefully if she does have it, she will have a very benign form of IgAN. It is a good sign that her serum creatinine is still normal. I really hope and pray it turns out to not be IgAN though. How are you doing ? I would love an update on how your IgAN is doing. Good to hear from you! I am a long time (quite, just lurking most of the time) member, diagnosed in Dec. 2001. My case has been mild so far. I have been able to maintain my creatinine at around 1.9 since 1998 with good blood pressure control, fish oil, and off and on prednisone (10mg every other day or less to control protein urea to less than .4g/day). You are probably wondering where I am going by now... I just wanted to refresh my history for the new members as I don't post that often. My only daughter also discovered blood and protein in her urine about a year ago. She has not been formally diagnosed due to lack of insurance - she is a poor medical student (she is too old to be in my plan). She found them on her own during a clinical experiment and have since repeated the tests several times herself. She is otherwise very healthy with normal S. creatnine. We have a strong suspision that she has IGAN as well. Since her case seems mild, we are waiting until after she graduate this June and has insurance to think about treatment or pregnancy options. So it's a good idea to get checked out! Yes. I have tried to persuade her to specialize in nephropathy, but with no success. She will be an anesthesiologist. It gives me peace of mind if nothing else. I hope it turns out to be nothing more than an infection or something with your daughter.
