Very well said! Today was also a day like that for me. First, I woke up

and had the whole apartment to myself. Today was the day I spoiled me.

First, I got out my favorite porno movie and put it in the vcr. Then I

plopped down on the couch. Ummm...Errr...Nevermind. I...Umm...Watched

cartoons the rest of the day. *nods* Yup yup. Hehe.

my first step

Hi Guys,

A few weeks ago, I started to really think about some of my current

behaviors that will have to change if I am to be successful with this

surgery. We all know that this surgery CAN be beaten; that it is only

a tool, and that each of us holds the key to our own success, so I

want to be well aware of the behaviors that I need to change in order

to be successful.

One such behavior rears its ugly head in my life constantly, and it

is probably not what you are thinking. I have come to realize that

whenever there is something I need to do for myself, it is the

absolute LAST priority in my life. I am constantly putting my

children's and my husband's wants and needs, ahead of my own....I am

sure I am not alone.

I need to get my haircut, but I don't have time. I need to exercise,

but I have to bring the kids to gymnastics. I need new underwear, but

the children are a little low on summer clothes, and DH needs socks.

It is actually quite ridiculous....

This surgery is a major investment in myself, but it does not stop

when I get out of the hospital. It MUST continue forever. I have to

continue to invest in myself for the rest of my life.

So a couple of weeks ago when this behavior became all too apparent,

I decided at that moment to make a change. I decided to start taking

better care of myself; better care of my appearance, my health, etc.

I decided to start making myself a priority every once in a while,

and I scheduled a special day for myself.

Today was that special day. I took a vacation day from work, and got

a manicure, pedicure, eyebrows waxed, hair cut and colored, and then

I went shopping for myself and no one else. I spent the entire day by

myself for myself, and it felt GREAT! For all pre-ops and post-

ops...we need to remember to constantly reinvest in ourselves. Make

the time to exercise. Make the time to prepare our meals. Make the

time to do things for ourselves. We deserve it!

I see no problem confusing the two of them... go buck wild and have a

mud bath; and wrestle with the attendants while you're at it!!!

Good for you! You're absolutely right! This is the time to be selfish.

It's time to take care of YOU! And this needs to continue well after

surgery, too. You're worth it, and you need that self-love to survive

this surgery. It's the biggest hurdle, but the most important.

Good for you! You're absolutely right! This is the time to be selfish.

It's time to take care of YOU! And this needs to continue well after

surgery, too. You're worth it, and you need that self-love to survive

this surgery. It's the biggest hurdle, but the most important.

Good for you! I'm still not REALLY good at it, but getting better. I know

for me, as a fat person, I constantly overcompensated to try to make myself

acceptable to others. Now I am more comfortable with the idea of spending

(time, money, effort) on myself.

I'm glad you are starting pre-op

Jeff and MJ,

I just waned to let you know I know how you feel with the last

minute jitters. I tend to worry about things tooo much. I had a

hard time sleeping about 3 days before surgery.

These were my thoughts:

What if I die??

What are my kids and DH going to do with out me?

What if it does not work?

What if they find I am dying of cancer?( silly I know but I have a

long family history of cancer.)

One morning I woke up and the first thought was ARE YOU

CRAZY ??? WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS FOR!!!!!

So I just wanted you to know my heart goes out to you two and

don't let this nervouse get you off the big picture. A happy,

healthy person!!!

Just thought I would share. MJ youn will be in my thoughts

Monday you will do fine.

same way. Wow...48 hours! What are you feeling today? I'm

kinda jittery today...it's one of my last 2 shifts before surgery...I

took next week off...FOR ME! ;-)

be in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck on Monday...I'll be

thinking of you. If you have the ability for someone to post to the

group to let us know how you're doing, please do. We'll all be

waiting with baited breath. Well...maybe not baited. I'm afraid of

what comment might come up with, with all the recent talk of

porno's and facials and all. ;-)
