Guest guest
I think you just about covered it all Topper. Until she gets aggressive with her doctor (no I don't mean beat him up, lol, but we'd LIKE to), nothing is going to happen here. Or, if need be, until she CHANGES doctors, she's not going to get diagnosed with the DIRECTION of her thyroid problem. Hashi's is a gritch to deal with, but it's got to be a progressive-aggressive thing. You can't change the spots on a leopard, as you can't change the mindset of a doctor, but you must try, but abandon shio quickly if he doesn't comply. Time's a wastin. Re: HELLO TOPPER-Here are my tempertures-HELP ME PLEASE Thanks for the reminder Theresa.... I read this when you first sent it but didn't respond right away and it got pushed to the rear of the pile.... sorry!!!! I just sat and read through all your posts from the last month.... What I'm seeing is that you have Hashi's ... you were in a hyper swing and the doc blamed it on the Armour.. the 'fluctuating T3' in it... and switched you to Synthroid... You started going through muscle cramping/aches across your shoulders... you've had 'internal twitching'. Your temps, now, are showing low in the morning... a bit too low, suggesting lowered metabolism... then they come up, as they should.. then go down a bit again, as they should... so the rise and fall are 'okay'.... Question.. what kind of a thermometer are you using and where are you putting it (under arm or under tongue) You've also been getting angry and snappy... not usual for you, I take it... that suggests hyper swing as well or an issue with conversion.. the reverse T3 issue... You're on a supplement for the immune system... stop it now... it's pissing off (for lack of a better word) the thyroid antibodies. You need to have copies of your labs while on Armour and those taken after switching to Synthroid.. if this is the first test since switching, how long has it been since you switched? You're going in to the doc on Wednesday... These are the tests that you NEED done. TSH Free T3 Free T4 Reverse T3 Thyroid antibodies Ferritin Bs Bone Density If you are on insurance and she starts balking that this is too much or some are not needed. Take some of your anger/rage and point it in her direction. You have Hashi's. You've recently had a hyper swing and were pulled off Armour and put on Synthroid, you need to know what your antibody levels are and you need to know how well your body is converting, since you are now on a Synthetic T4 only med. You've gone long enough feeling like crap and you want the care for properly, starting now. Skipping Synthetic for a day won't do squat for you that day or the next. T4 doesn't work that way. You need copies of your labs, a phone call saying 'in range' and continue on your current dose is not acceptable. You want copies of your labs to put in your home medical emergency file and to be able to accurately track how your body is responding to your medication. Your goal is to suppress your TSH to be able to have better control over the Hashis's and reduce the severity and frequency of the Hashi's swings. You want to be back in six weeks to have the same labs run again and to determine if you will be continuing on synthetics, or go back to natural, and what other adjustments will be needed. Lets go over this some more... have others jump in to make sure that we cover everything... and then you can write up your list so that you have everything straight in your mind and notes to take with you. Oh... can you give me the list of EVERYTHING you are taking right now... meds, herbals, supplements? Also, do you smoke, do caffeine... anything like that? I know about the mercury fillings.... Guest guest
Last time I saw the doctor she told me that there was not anything you can do for the High Antiboidies. All you can do is try to get your thyroid at a normal level. Thanks for the help and advice. Sure do appreciate it. Theresa > I think you just about covered it all Topper. Guest guest
I take Super Enchinichea right now and was taking some Bladderwrack tincture to help build up my iodine and immune system also. I am assuming from this statement below that when you have Hashi's this prolly isnt a good idea. I assumed it meant my immune system was really bad and not working properly. Am I mistaken? Please advise as I am learning all this stuff. Also this herbal group I am in tells me I just need to stop everything and Do a TOTAL BODY CLEANSE along With some Green Superfood and my body will rekick my whole system into working correctly. Is this just bull? I tried following there advise once a couple months ago and thats when my husband had to take of work and rush me to the doctor cause I was so weak I couldnt take care of our baby and my thyroid was pulsating throbbing (just like yesterday) thanks Deana > > You're on a supplement for the immune system... stop it now... > it's pissing off (for lack of a better word) the thyroid antibodies. > >

Guest guest
Hi Deana, I now have a naturopathic doc and she would not even tell me to stop taking any of the 10 different meds that I was on, so I would be very carefull about who you take advice from. It has been 'my' experience that some people that believe in the non-drug approach can go more than a little overboard with advice on things and if they have no knowledge of what is going on with you or about thyroid in general then their advice could be detrimental to you. As for the iodine that is something to be very cautious with whether hypo or hyper and so I will let someone who has more knowledge get back to you on that. Cleansing your system [something that I am doing] does not mean that it will heal the thyroid but I made the choice not to take any other pills, only what the naturopath prescribed, all mine. If at the end of this I still have to take meds for the thyroid it will be Armour [or Canadian equivalent] and the Adrenal that I am on now then that is fine. If I don't need to that will be great but I am not expecting to be healed by cleansing because the years of damage may make that impossible. I do know that this is the best that I have felt in about 20 years and I am very happy about that. My advice be careful of advice that is given without good info or knowledge. Putting back the soap box before Topper knows that it is missing.......... Hope this helps. Guest guest
You're okay Dawn... just make sure that it's back in the same corner, over there by the window, for the next person that needs to soap box.... has a supply at her place.... and several of the other folks around here finally broke down and got their own.... ...they sure do come in handy.... but, well, sometimes I stack them and end up getting too high up there and make a fool of myself... like the locking myself in the bathroom story.... oh my gosh... I just said it again!!!! *blush* Topper () On Sun, 12 Jun 2005 15:49:57 -0700 (PDT) dawn prince writes: Hi Deana, I now have a naturopathic doc and she would not even tell me to stop taking any of the 10 different meds that I was on, so I would be very carefull about who you take advice from. Guest guest
I think you need to take a few steps back and take only the meds you need to take..a lot of meds interact and this includes natural vs. synthetic as most synthetics were drived from a natural source to begin with. You have two main problems right now..one being the thyroid..so yuo obviously need to take a thyroid medication. You also have a severe yeast/fungus infection that needs to be treated. Personally I perfer Aciddophillis..but you need to decide on one and take it until the yeast is completely gone and then continue on it for a week just to make sure you give it a good kick.. After the yeast problem is solved then if you need to add in more pills, do it slowly and only one at a time... I understand everyone wants to feel better now but it is really hard to tell what effect you get from what pill good or bad if you are taking them all and adding in taking out and not really sure what you are doing. Just a note..but immune support drugs that are stimulants..they really should be avoided..things like Echinacia etc. stimulate the immune system..if you have an auto immune disorder you do not want to stimmulate it but find alternatives to build it stronger..This is the same reason they say no caffiene, no smoking etc. it is the same effect. And usually they are only meant to be taken for two weeks and longer and they can mess up the system, especially the high doses they are available in..Too much long term Vitamin C can be bad for you too and I would quit everything except the thyroid and yeast meds and take a few steps back.. Guest guest
I have Hashi's. I tried Echinacea for a week or two about 5 or 6 yrs ago. The corneas and scleras of my eyes swelled, and I had some of my first few asthma attacks. I couldn't figure out what was going on, until I read a very long article in the newspaper during about the 2nd week, saying that Echinacea is guess what---a ragweed! I am violently allergic to the ragweeds. Ragweed is not just one plant, but a group of plants all related to each other. There is the one plant that we think of as the only ragweed, but Echinacea is in that group of plants. The advice in the article was not to take it, if you have this allergy. I stopped it. Three days later, the eye symptoms and asthma abated, at least temporarily. I have had asthma attacks since then, but NEVER these weird eye symptoms. My eyes were literally---this is gross---leaking pus through those little tear ducts. It was horrible. Some of the " immune system " herbs do mobilize certain ones of the T cells in the immune system. I frankly am connecting this to the development of autoantibodies. Even the scientific literature states this because there is an enzyme or a substance missing in us autoimmune people that normally allows the mobilized T cells to " recognize self " as not being the enemy, only to attack actual foreign bodies. Anything that mobilizes these little bugars is going to cause an avalanche. It IS confusing, as cortisol does help us with our natural immunity and the building of our immune system. Cortisol another sbjct? Nope.
