Hi Nate;

I got told many times that I was just too smart for AA. Things like " Don't

question, just do it " I realize now that those statements were similar to the

one's I'd learned as a child. The three rules of dysfunction, Don't talk,

don't feel, don't trust.

I noticed in prison that alcoholics do well in a highly structured environment,

such as prison. I had little or no trouble with the prison environment.

Surprisingly I actually thrived in it.

Point is that I think AA tries to duplicate that structure to a degree. Just

follow orders and you'll be fine. Don't think, do anything the group doesn't do

or question anything. God of your understanding as long as your understanding

aligns with the book. The object of this appears to be a thinking lobotomy. I

believe an actual lobotomy might be kinder for many.

After 30 years of hearing I was too smart, I realized they were right. I am too

smart to be involved in that garbaage any longer.

Loved your Nocebo piece.

aa has many anti intellectual slogans designed to undermine

critical thinking, it is only way they can keep their their spell of the

group consciousness working. if you were to examine their

claims rationally, they would fall apart like tissue paper.
