Guest guest
Hi Kathy, First of all, best of luck on Monday! 3 weeks is a while to wait for staples, but you're ahead of the game! Soft foods I'd suggest are: either egg beaters, regular small eggs (poached, scrambled (add cheese if you wish for extra protein), even fried, but NOT WITH BUTTER! I used the butter flavored PAM, and I felt like I was eating a freaking turkey dinner! Also, things like SF pudding, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (if allowed), IF meats are allowed, try turkey meat from the deli, low fat/low sodium. Fish is always great if allowed, and easily manageable for most. Again and as always, listen to your Dr. for everything. Each Dr. is different, and want you to follow their guidelines. Good luck at work! Dawn soft foods Hi Everyone, I go for my first check up Monday!! I get my staples out!!!! Very excited about that. My Dr.. leaves them in for 3wks.!!! I am actually going in at 2 1/2 wks. post-op because thats when they had a appt. and lucky me I get to go back to work on Tues. I fell great and VERY ready to get back to the working world. I know I will be tired at first because I seem to get exhaused at about 8:00 P.M. and I work 5 P.M. to 11P.M. So as of Monday I think I will be on soft puree diet. The Dr. I had has you on the cottage cheese, protien drink, yogurt diet for the first 3wks. Now as I said I will be on SOFT foods. Who knew I would be that excited about the prospect of puree foods!!! What do you all suggest for this stage?? I know I will get a list tomorrow but just wanted to see what wisdom you could all share. Thanks for any help, Kathy I think I have lost 24 pounds!!! Guest guest
Food that has been pureed and put back together might be worth a try. Try link sausages, hot dogs, pate and chicken patties. I was able to eat all of them in week two. Ray Hooks kvagle@... wrote: > > Hi Everyone, > > I go for my first check up Monday!! I get my staples out!!!! Very > excited about that. Guest guest
it's usually organ meat such as liver that has been pureed and seasoned. It's really high in fat, but it's sooooooo yummy. Guest guest
I can't imagine that jello, ricotta cheese and chicken broth tastes good together (kidding!) but my mother used to make a very yummy cottage cheese w/green jello and fruit as a easy summer dessert that could probably be modified to be a good option for folks looking for soft foods. It was basically, cottage cheese, jellow (SF in this case), some cool whip (do they have that in SF?), and I believe pinapple and mandrin oranges - we used to use Lime jello - mix all up equal parts of cottage cheese to cool whip and then let it set for awhile in the fridge. You could probably play with it - add protien powder to bump up the protien etc. Jeanie In OSSG-NewEngland@y..., Priscilla King <pking1@r...> wrote: > And don't forget jello(SF) ricotta cheese and chicken broth. Guest guest
I was allowed to do soft no-chew foods after one week, but I think it was at least 4-6 weeks before I was allowed to chew, and then it was tough to start again. Call your surgeon's office and confirm if you are not sure. The booklets are usually only a guideline - your doc may have specific instructions for your individual case. I think it's better to be conservative in these things. I ate Kraft Dinner, but cooked until it was as big as it could get. I actually always like it that way. Definitely don't do it al dente. We slightly whizzed it in the food processor before I " chewed " it - by chewing, I mean mushing it against the top of my mouth with my tongue - no between-the-teeth chewing allowed. Hope that helps,

Hope that helps,
Guest guest
I was allowed to do soft no-chew foods after one week, but I think it was at least 4-6 weeks before I was allowed to chew, and then it was tough to start again. Guest guest
Hey Tammy, Ive been eating those soft, no-chew foods since i got home and actually wanted them. As long as i could smoosh them on the roof of my mouth with my tongue and swallow i think i've been ok. With pasta i just throw it in the blender read quickly with some sauce to get it to the tendency of tiny rice, kinda mushy... and its really good! Tastes just like pasta!! And i had scrambled eggs the other day.. just make sure they are SUPER scrambled so you can just put a lil on a baby spoon or fork and swallow! I guess make sure your doctor agrees that you are ready.. but i dont see why he wouldnt.. i had upper/lower/genio ~Becca > Hi everyone, > I was just wondering when people were allowed to begin eating soft > mushy foods like scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and overcooked > pasta? The booklet my doctor gave me said that I could start trying > to chew the eggs and pasta after 2 weeks, which will be this coming > monday. > I was also wondering how " overcooked " should the pasta be in order > for it to be safe for my jaw. I have a couple of packs of kraft > dinner and would like to know how people here prepared it and what > texture and consistancy the mac & cheese was. > Thanks > Tammy

Guest guest
Wow! You sure are lucky being able to eat soft foods so soon. I am completely banded shut and even eating grits in the blender proved a difficult feat for me.
