Guest guest
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A beta blocker prescribed to an asthmatic? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! Homicidal, lol. One doctor prescribed atenolol to me at one point (blood pressure). Within a week I was having chest pain and breathing problems, not necessarily in that order. MY natural instincts said to take a close look at and drop the latest add on med, which was the atenolol. It had been like a " square shaped " electrical shock going around inside my chest, something I would compare to a lightning bolt, that almost paralyzed me for a few seconds. I did NOT know, at the time, that asthmatics shouldn't have beta blockers, which may have been the least problem, when it came to the shock symptom, but my instincts told me that, since this was a new frightening symptom, it must be the last med added, since I took nothing before but a thyroid med. I went to the ER and had cardiac tests run that very day, but nothing was found out of rhythm at that point (something like 4 to 5 hrs later, that is). I stopped the drug immediately, as I hadn't been on it very long, and the breathing problems subsided in a couple of days. When it comes to the electrical lightning bolt feeling, something tells me that maybe angels were standing by, waiting to do mini CPR on me, as I think that if I had continued this med, I may have died of MI at some sooner point. I found out that I, as an asthmatic AND as a thyroid patient, PLUS not having any baseline cardiac tests, not even a simple steth put over my heart to listen for those Ss and sound things, I should NEVER have been prescribed this type of drug, a beta blocker. I said, " Doc _ _ _ _. what are you trying to do, kill me?! " He didn't say " Possibly " . Aaaaaaaa!! Sorry, but I trust mySELF more these days. Guest guest
This happened to me in the intials Hashi's phase, hyperthyroid. I weighed in at 113 lbs at 5'6" tall, could eat anything I wanted and was also hypomanic, bordering on straight out mania. I ate a TON of food, for the first time in my life I didn't gain weight from it. I ran like a hamster on a wheel, from sheer nervousness, NOT for weight loss. (NO, I wasn't bolemic). My mind could calculate things at high speed, at least during the times that I wasn't something borderin on ADHD, or maybe was. I was also quite daring with my life, if that makes any sense at all. Was I ever treated with any anti manic meds? No. When my thyroid completely crashed in one day, I was a whole new person, a very sick one. As though the former wasn't a very sick one, lol. I've said on this site that, looking back, who WAS that person? What was the name of that downloaded article by all those doctors? The Psychodynamics of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Or something like that. It's in my Real Downloads, but it's telling me that no application is associated with it to open it? Hmmm, what's up HERE this time! Re: Stops meds Something like this can happen if the person is in a Hashi hyper swing.... Feeling better and dropping the replacement hormone and then the hyper state continuing and causing a loss it weight.... That's why we are always asking for a diagnosis and not settling for just the word 'hypothyroid', or 'hyperthyroid', we want to know if antibodies are testing and if the individual is dealing with antibodies and should be on the look out for swings or changes in gland function. Again... another reason why charting and diaries are such a great thing to have... to be able to SEE what your body is doing and realize if there is a change in function....
