Guest guest
Terry, Sorry to hear you have shingles again! I'm surprised you got them twice in such a short time. I know it is very painful. I never had them but my husband had them as a teenager and so did his friend. I haven't even had the chicken pox. I had the vaccine but it didn't work for me. Good luck to you. I hope the duration is short since you had it already. - In Thyca@y..., " Terry Murray " <terrymurray54@e...> wrote: > Hello to the group. Guest guest
Terry, Not only did I have shingles, i got them at NIH while I was undergoing parathyroid localization tests looking for my lost parathyroid (which ws found in the 1/2 lobe of rt. thyroid that was left after first surgery.) I was soooo miserable.m For days, I kept complaining, but nothing was there. i tried all kinds of lotions, bought a new pillow,;finally, a new lesion popped out on my back. Quel miserable! Can you get the special treatment to help it? (Acyclovir I believe?) Judy/ATlanta Hello to the group. Well it never ends well today I woke up with shingles. Has anyone gone threw that themselves. I had gotten it two years ago right before I was told about my thyroid cancer. Please can someone e-mail me so I don\'t feel so alone. Guest guest
Hello to everyone, Thank you all for answering my e-mail. This group is so supporting of each other it is a blessing for me. Well I am dealing with the shingles now for the second time around, I guess I was a little depressed when I posted this last time. It just never seems to end. But today is a better day for me and I am going to work on my crafts. which gives me a break from this for now. Judy I did go the the ER they gave me cutivate ointment. I'll let everyone know if it works good or not. Take care to everyone. Guest guest
I'm not sure I know what shingles look like, but I have had an awful rash on the front of my legs for the last 2 years. The docs always say everything isn't related. I went to a dermatologist and she called it " Lichen simplex chronicus " chronicus is right, i can't get rid of it and dairy products seem to make it worse. I also get little sores here and there on my upper back and arms. it's driving me nuts and i hate to use cortisone which doesn't work anyway, i never had any kind of skin problems before this. is it an immune thing? Guest guest
If you do a Google Search, you can find lots of info about Shingles. According to one of the sites, 2 in 10 people get Shingles, so it is not an uncommon disease. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Merck are doing a study to test the effectiveness of a vaccine. While they have closed the enrollment, they have enrolled nearly 40,000 volunteers for the study -- hopefully they will have some positive results! Guest guest
------------ original message ----------- I\'m not sure I know what shingles look like, but I have had an awful rash on the front of my legs for the last 2 years. The docs always say everything isn\'t related. Shingles only appear on one side of the body at a time. they don\'t cross the midline, so if it is on both legs, it\'s not shingles Judy/Atlanta
