Guest guest
For those of you working on rosacea and/or other health problems with a wholistic, dietary approach, I thought I'd share this. I " bit the bullet " and bought a Vita-Mix, which arrived just two days ago. It is very expensive for a " blender " , but it really does more than other blenders can. It cost even more for the 220-240 V model which I needed, plus overseas shipping, but having used it, I think it's a good, worthwhile investment. I blended and drank a salad last night, and a lemon/olive oil/wheat germ/lecithin/blackstrap molasses mix this morning. That had an unusual taste I wouldn't recommend: my first priority here is health, but you could choose more palatable combinations. I also made a fruit drink that was absolutely delicious. The first thing I have noticed is that today I have NO noticeable gas in my digestive tract, which is very, very rare for me. Recently I had reduced it to almost none by dietary care (including Mark's suggestions) and chewing everything very well, but I still sometimes had a problem, and usually had a little bit. Today there is NO gas at all - I can suck my gut flat back against my spine (at least it feels like that) with complete comfort. The second thing is that I feel very clear-headed and more alert than usual. The third thing I noticed was that I had one of the best workouts yet, this afternoon, which left me feeling more invigorated than tired. My face looks good today, but heat, humidity and sun are my main triggers, and it is POURING rain from an almost black sky here today -- so this could just be the weather! I cannot say for sure that these good signs are all because of the Vita-Mix, but I didn't change anything else in my routine at all, so it seems to be. Their promotional literature says that the machine reduces particle size to more than 1000 times smaller than teeth can do, making everything very digestible. Having used it, I believe it: there is no way my teeth could completely liquify beets, celery and carrots (including all the fiber) like this does. This would explain why I have no gas today: Excess gas is produced by the action of bacteria in the gut, upon undigested particles of food that enter the intestine from the stomach. By physically " chewing " the food so well, the stomach and salivary enzymes are able to do an excellent job. This means greater absorbtion of nutrients, and a happier balance of intestinal flora. If you get the " super " model with the dry-ingredients container, it also makes great oatmeal flour, for those using oatmeal on the face - you can grind the oatmeal as finely as you like in seconds, with easy control over the process (both speed and time are separately controllable). The same container will grind flaxseeds, for a fresher source of flaxseed oil, complete with high fiber. The thing also makes flour and kneads bread dough, cooks soups(!), etc... For more info, search under " Vita-Mix " ; they have a website. If you send them an inquiry from the website, they will send you a complete colour brochure. It's too early for me to be sure what effects long-term use of this will have, but based on my initial observations, I am very pleased with it. I would recommend a Vita-Mix to anyone seeking better health, provided they can afford its fairly high price. Hope this helps someone. -Lee
Guest guest
I bought a vita-mix almost 2 years ago and love it. I use it every day, no kidding. I did not get the kind you can do grains and dough with. The vita-mix has a motor more than 2 horse power. That is why you can just throw fruits in it and they turn into liquid. At first I followed the directions for fruit drinks. But once I got used to using the machine, I just buy whatever fruits are in season and add orange juice, or cranberry juice, or milk, and sometimes soy powder and make my own drink. They are always great. One plus is with ice added, you get something similar to a slush. If you are flaring and hot, boy will you cool down. Sometimes I have to put a sweater on I get so chilly from drinking the fruit drink. I've also made soup in it - that is good too. I ordered mine thinking I would return it after the 30 day trail, but after the first day I loved it. They are expensive $400+. They last a long time - 20 years later they are still going strong. You can make baby food in them too. I guess you can tell I love the machine!
