Guest guest
Hi everyone, Hope everyone is doing well and feeling fine. I am so discouraged I needed to write in. I had lost between 40-50 lbs. and was so encouraged. Then, Friday evening, I went into an adrenal crisis and ended up in the ER of Deaconess-Glover Hospital in Needham where I live. This is one of many crises that I have had before. This time my BP went down to 60/40, the gurney was lowered Trendelenberg position. The whole ER staff went to work on me getting IVs into both arms (the veins are shot due to Prednisone which I need for my adrenal problems). They finally got me stable and was admitted to the ICU where I spent the weekend getting IVs and steroids. They found I have anemia with evidence of bleeding somewhere in my body. My regular internist was not on call. I saw an associate who is lovely and who happens to be my husband's M.D. I will see my own M.D. tomorrow morning and will proceed from there in investigating about the bleeding. This happened once before several years ago, and I ended up discovering I was bleeding from my Barrett's esophagus (yes, I have many medical problems). I have already started iron tablets, 3 daily. I imagine I will be seeing my gastroenterologist sooner than expected for a work-up. I am worried. I hope it has nothing to do with the WLS. I don't know if I will be sent to Dr. Thayer who operated on me or Dr. Curtis, my gastroenterologist (both at NWH). I had looked so good already (not bragging - just feeling good about what I had lost in weight). Now, I am puffy all over from the high doses of steroids which I needed to correct the adrenal crisis. My knees are actually tight from the puffiness. It will go away in time as I am tapering down now, but it is so discouraging. Sorry for going on and on. I just needed to talk to people who would understand about the weight part of it. Thanks so much for listening. Pray that it has nothing to do with the WLS as that might be more involved in correcting than a gastro problem. Sally
Guest guest
Sally, I'm so sorry you're having difficulties sweetie. I know how much trouble the adrenal issues have caused, and hopefully they'll find out where the bleeding is to determine how to fix you all up, so you can come back and talk to us folks! Don't assume it may be WLS related....it could be something simple that can be " mended " right? Take care and hugs to you! Dawn PS..Congrats on your current success, and may it follow in stride! Don't worry about the puffy's...I get massively puffy during heat, so I figure by the time fall comes, I'll have really felt like I lost more weight!
