To follow up on what Pierre said about one brand being about the same

as another as long as the proportions of EPA and DHA are right, last

year Consumer Reports tested a number of brands of omega 3 fish oil

capsules and found them all to be accurate about the amounts and

suitably pure, etc. So the recommendation was to use one of the cheaper

brands.

Thanks again,

I have read about people being on Fish Oil in the USA but is anyone been put

on fish oil by their nephs in the UK - I would be interested to hear as I want

to broach the subject with my neph and has anyone come across a medical study

in the UK about Fish Oil?

Hi Jeanie,

I live in London and have been on fish oil for about 9 months. I get OMACOR

capsules on prescription from my Nephrologist. I take 4 x 1000mg a day. Each

capsule contains 90% Omega-3-acid ethyl esters comprising 46% EPA and 38% DHA. I

don't have any problems with burps or fishy breath, though they do make me a

little 'windy' at the other end! I think they cost about £20 for 28 capsules -

thank goodness for the NHS! My Neph says there is some 'soft' evidence that they

might help, though he doesn't actually think they do! Nonetheless he thinks I

should take them 'just in case'.

I also take ramipril and irbesartan

Hope this helps.
