Hi Elaine,

I regularly (until the LID, etc.) take 150mg of Levoxyl and a twice

daily dose of Cytomel 5mcg.

I was not feeling very well, and my endo decided to boost my levels

with the cytomel. I had started to feel better and then we found the

raised lymph nodes. I did see an improvement with the added cytomel.

hope this helps -

Thank you, Sus. It does help! It also makes sense to medicate this way, from

all that I have read. I'm sorry to hear about those lymph nodes, though. Take

care and hang in there.

I am curious, though, as to why adding Cytomel rather than increasing the

Levoxyl (which would seem to be easier).

Hi bj -

my endo feels that some people just don't create enough T3 while

taking Levothyroxine. So she has begun adding the Cytomel on a case

by case basis. I don't metabolize meds well - I have med related

Cushing's from prednisone taken for asthma. She is questioning

whether my body just isn't making or making enough of the T3

component.

bj,

I read an excerpt from a study written about in the NE Journal of Medicine

stating that patients who received a small dose of T3 with T4 felt better.

re: excerpt from a study written about in the NE Journal of Medicine stating

It's in the Feb 11, 1999 issue of the NE J Med

http://content.nejm.org/

and wend your way into the archives.

You have to register, but it's free.

Note that this study was in patients with hypo, which is not the same as

patients with thyca.

The article was published in Feb. 11, 1999 issue of

The New England Journal of Medicine -- Volume 340, Number 6

Keep in mind that the study included only 33 patients with

hypothyroidism -- a pretty small sampling and there were not on total

hormone replacement as those of us who have had a TT.

Alyssa,

I think the article is in Feb. 1999 of New England Journal of Medicine. I'm

going to go to the library to see if I can copy the whole article.

I found the excerpt at: http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/t3drugsnejm.htm

Hi,

I'm one of those ppatients who takes T4 & T3. Just a wee dose of T3 -

(5 mcg - the smallest dose available) has made a big difference in how I'm

feeling. I no longer need daily naps. LOL
