W,

I couldn't agree with you more. I joined in September and can't

believe how many have joined since. I am happy that women are able to

find this group but saddened by the need to be here. All of our

stories are so similar and it is so frustrating that this happens. I

also wonder how many women don't find this group and wish there was a

way to get the word out about AS. One of the hardest parts about it

is that few people know what it is and I was so upset at first that I

found explaining it to be very draining. I even had an ultrasound

tech who had never heard of it and she was supposed to be looking for

signs of it. Anyway I understand your frustration. Take care.

W,

I completely agree with you. Every night when I log on, I look at

the total number of members and it grows almost daily. I remember

the number was around 190 when I joined in May 2002 and now it's

over 250! I'm thankful every day that we have a site we can turn to

to deal with AS, but I agree that these women shouldn't have to join

a site if their doctors knew how to treat their fragile uteri (ie

post-miscarriage, post-d & c).

There has to be a way to get the message out. A friend of mine has

encouraged me to write a letter to Oprah Winfrey. My dh and I even

joked about going to her show when we were in town to see Dr. Valle.

I realize Oprah may not be the best place to start; however the

American Academy of OBGYNs would be. How do we do this? A letter

campaign? Heck, we have 250+ women who could overwhelm their email

address and/or regular postal mail. We need press coverage like the

estrogen studies that came out on post-menopausal women. This is a

very creative and diverse group, I'm sure if we put our minds to it,

we could figure something out.

This was a good vent, W. Thanks!! I feel better now!

Roxie,

I agree with your post especially your statement " I also wonder how

many women don't find this group and wish there was a way to get the

word out about AS. "

When I was diagnosed with AS back in March 2002, I asked the doctor

how often AS occurs. His reply was " you are the third patient this

month to be diagnosed. " From the moment he said you are among three,

I wanted to search for those women. To this day I wonder if they

have become members of this group. I hope they found their way....

Hi,

Maybe we could start with one of our more creative members designing an A4

poster that we could all print of and ask our Dr's if we could put it up in

their offices?

Something with a little description and the web address?

That way we could all feel like we had done something.

Your sister in sadness.

Stacie,

I mentioned this before but as there are many new members....

If you have tried to find Ashermans on a specific search engine and not found

the Freeserver site please try to submit it with this search engine, you can

normally do this for free though it does take a while for them to add the

site, they normally have a little button somewhere on their home pages to

suggest a site and just think you could be helping someone else find the help

that you have found.

Lesia

PS anyone gets stuck let me know the search engine and I'll have a go, but

obviously if you can do it...

Lesia,

I like the idea of a poster to put up in doctors offices. Do we have a creative member in the group who could design a poster for AS???? Then you could send it through to the group and we could all take copies and stick them up in the waiting room or somewhere?? I think this poster should not say too much but instead draw attention to someone looking at it like the words "have you had a D & C recently?" "Have your periods become light or non existent?" "Are you sure you don't have ASHERMANS SYNDROME!!" Then you could direct them to the web page where it will explain what this is.

What do you all think????

Hi Poly,

Great idea, but they would not hang this anywhere near a medical facility in the US. What about Europe? I think we should wallpaper my OBs house with it! Ha. Ha. If only I knew where he lived!

W, Sara O,

We did write emails to Oprah many times. Perhaps it is a good time to email her again?? Anyway, how can we contact American Academy of OBGYNs??

Debbie C is working on an Ashermans pamphlet but still don't know where the best place is to place these pamplets. Who will pay for these and who will do the distributing??

Sorry to just jump in, but what about Schneiderman from ABC and the Berman sisters, one of which is due to give birth anyday and has a lot of difficulty. The sisters are both doctors. one is an OB and the other a urologist. They are on the Oxygen channel. Also there is Diane Sawyer, and the ladies on The View. E-mail and forward all messages to them as well.. I am sure someone out here in LA or in New York knows someone who might know someone who might know someone...you know what I mean..all we need is one producer.....to listen...we have a huge story to tell..

Sorry to pipe in, but this needs public attention.. also if that doesn't work..try going with the local papers...sometimes the AP network picks up on those...it's another route!!!
