Guest guest
Hi everyone! I made it. Surgery went well and I was released 3 days post-op on Friday, June 15, 2001. The pain was not as bad as I expected it. Coming home I realized how much I missed that adjustable hospital bed. Laying flat just doesn't work yet. How long does it take until you feel normal again? I am eating little portions because I am afraid to overeat and my husband is worse than a nurse!! Dr. Thayer told me to eat " nothing that doesn't fit through a straw " and OMG is my husband taking that statement serious. I have my first follow up with Dr. Thayer on Wednesday. I can't wait to see how much weight I lost so far. BIG QUESTION: I have not had a bowl movement since friday (after they gave me something in the hospital to help it along) Is that normal not to have one for a couple of days or so? I had some cream of wheat this morning and felt really full after a couple of spoons and since I am having major cramps but nothing is happening. Any suggestions? Or is this normal? Afterall I am hardly eating anything. Ok one more question: In the diat plan/guidelines I got from the docs office it says you can have two table spoons of peanut butter for protein. I had them this morning also and after eating that my full feeling got worse. I read the side panel and it says that there are 3 g of sugar in it. Can I have that? I am still not sure what they mean by " no sugar " . Everything seems to have it!! How much can one have? I know some of it is natural sugar and that is ok. But in the peanut butter that is added - but yet they recommend eating it? HELP Please!!!! I will try to make it to the next support group meeting to get some insight info from people. Guest guest
Welcome to the other side Viola! Laying flat for some people takes time, others can do it immediately. I couldn't lay flat for a good solid 2 1/2-3 weeks, used every pillow in the house to make ME comfortable! LOL! (my husband wasn't too happy) . Don't worry about not having a bowel movement. Not only do you eat less, but anesthesia causes your body to shut down for a bit, so it takes a bit to get back " into the swing " . I recall not going for a week...yes, it sucked, but eventually all was a " go " . If you become way too uncomfortable, call your Dr's office, they sometimes will suggest a mild stool softener or something similar. Drink as much water as possible, and walk as often as you can, this will also help. Umm...I'm not familiar with your diet regime, but if it's allowing a couple tbsp. of peanut butter, don't worry too much about the sugar, but if you feel the need, you could get the " All natural p/b " , or Soy Peanut butter that has less sugar. I believe " Jif " , but the " Simply Jif " has less sugar than most if you're concerned. Wishing you all the luck, comfort, and heeling sweetie! Dawn Home Again!! Hi everyone! I made it. Guest guest
Hi Viola, Welcome home! Sounds like everything's going well. All the stuff with feeling full after 2 bites, and no bowel movements is very normal. In fact, I didn't have a BM for 6 days after I got home, and after that It took several weeks for them to get back to normal. 3g of sugar in peanut butter shouldn't be bad, just take it very slow. Maybe one bite is all you can handle right now, and that's okay. Oatmeal and PB are pretty dense foods, though, so maybe you want to stick to more liquidy things until your pouch is ready. As for lying flat, I couldn't do until 4 weeks out. I slept in a recliner until then. Everything takes time, but it will get better, I SWEAR! Hang in there. - AA churchv@... wrote: > > Hi everyone! > I made it. Surgery went well and I was released 3 days post-op on > Friday, June 15, 2001.
