Hi everyone...

i would like to know how long it takes for complete 100% recovery...

when can you eat a steak and not feel any pain or discomfort... also

when do all the bruises (even those inside the mouth) disapear..

doctors always make things look simple... i had my two upper wisdom

teeth removed 2 weeks ago and my surgeon told my that i'll be able to

eat anything in 2 days!! but i had more pain from the things they

used to keep my mouth open during surgery than from the teeth and

stiches.... and i couldn't chew solid food until more than a week

after surgery... also i got these sort of bumps inside my mouth after

the stiches were removed and it still hurts if i touch them or when i

lauph or talk for a long time....

and this was just extraction of teeth... so what am i to expect with

jaw surgery... i need to know the details, stages, and duration....

i can't make a decision unless i know both short and long-term

consequences....

especially longterm

thank you very much in advance

Safa

,

I had lower and genio. I did not have a splint after surgery, but I

did have one during the surgery for alignment purposes only. The

splint certainly would make talking much more difficult, but I was

able to do fairly well after a few days. I believe the congestion

issues are primarily associated with the upper surgery. I had no

congestion. Are you having genioplasty as well? THe swelling/pain

really differs for everyone...my swelling and bruising were

extensive, but it's almost completely gone now (four and a half weeks

out). Joan

I am only having the jaw advanced, no genioplasty. The surgeon & my

ortho do not think its needed. I am really hoping for an easy

recovery, but am preparing for the worst.

For how long were you not supposed to talk? My husband is concerned

that it might be difficult for our 4 year old if I can't talk to her

for an extended time (she can't read yet!). Thanks.

Seems like to me he discouraged it for about six weeks. That didn't

however, mean I had to be tomb silent, and I wasn't. (You should

know, too, that my surgeon didn't band me when I left the hospital

because he said, probably accurately, " You like to talk, a lot, and I

hate to think about you straining against the bands. " )

The idea was more to minimize it than to eliminate it altogether, I

think. I do think some moms of little tots have advised taping

lullabies for their younguns for use while they heal. Sounds like a

good idea to me. I admit, I did sound a little odd with all that

stuff in my mouth!
