Guest guest
Hi everyone... i would like to know how long it takes for complete 100% recovery... when can you eat a steak and not feel any pain or discomfort... also when do all the bruises (even those inside the mouth) disapear.. doctors always make things look simple... i had my two upper wisdom teeth removed 2 weeks ago and my surgeon told my that i'll be able to eat anything in 2 days!! but i had more pain from the things they used to keep my mouth open during surgery than from the teeth and stiches.... and i couldn't chew solid food until more than a week after surgery... also i got these sort of bumps inside my mouth after the stiches were removed and it still hurts if i touch them or when i lauph or talk for a long time.... and this was just extraction of teeth... so what am i to expect with jaw surgery... i need to know the details, stages, and duration.... i can't make a decision unless i know both short and long-term consequences.... especially longterm thank you very much in advance Safa
Guest guest
, I had lower and genio. I did not have a splint after surgery, but I did have one during the surgery for alignment purposes only. The splint certainly would make talking much more difficult, but I was able to do fairly well after a few days. I believe the congestion issues are primarily associated with the upper surgery. I had no congestion. Are you having genioplasty as well? THe swelling/pain really differs for everyone...my swelling and bruising were extensive, but it's almost completely gone now (four and a half weeks out). Guest guest
I am only having the jaw advanced, no genioplasty. The surgeon & my ortho do not think its needed. I am really hoping for an easy recovery, but am preparing for the worst. > , > I had lower and genio. Guest guest
For how long were you not supposed to talk? My husband is concerned that it might be difficult for our 4 year old if I can't talk to her for an extended time (she can't read yet!). Thanks. > > I am supposed to have my lower jaw advanced by about 7 or 8 mm in > > August. I will be banded with a splint and was wondering how my > > speech would be after. Guest guest
Seems like to me he discouraged it for about six weeks. That didn't however, mean I had to be tomb silent, and I wasn't. (You should know, too, that my surgeon didn't band me when I left the hospital because he said, probably accurately, " You like to talk, a lot, and I hate to think about you straining against the bands. " ) The idea was more to minimize it than to eliminate it altogether, I think. I do think some moms of little tots have advised taping lullabies for their younguns for use while they heal. Sounds like a good idea to me. I admit, I did sound a little odd with all that stuff in my mouth! Cammie > > > I am supposed to have my lower jaw advanced by about 7 or 8 mm > in > > > August.
