What level of kidney function are you at? Do you have to be on a low

anything diet? You might feel weak when you have more advanced kidney

insufficiency, but there's really no reason for IgAN itself to make you feel

weak. Could be blood pressure medication though. What time of day do you

take the medication, if any, and which one? Could be other things too, I

guess.

Jill,

Have you asked your neph about possibly being anemic? I know this

usually happens when you get closer to renal failure--but what

exactly is your level of functioning? I was always anemic, even

without my kidney functioning being low. I think for me it was just

genetics.

Jill,

Is it possible you are in the middle of a flare up or have a low grade virus?

Weakness is not a usual symptom of Igan. Fatigue is, but not weakness.

I hope you feel better and more energetic soon.

Jill the IgAN and/or the drug combinations we are on tend to make me feel

tired more than weak. However the prednisone seemed to make me feel very

weak when I first started on it. I had a lot of muscle fatigue and shaking

at the start but it got better over time as my body adjusted to the drug.

It seems you really need to keep up with some sort of mild exercise while on

prednisone or that weakness feeling hits you hard. (at least for me it has

been like this) I notice a big difference when I do just a little bit of

stretching with resistance bands daily along with my walk on my treadmill.

If I don't keep up with it my hands shake when I pick up heavy items and my

legs get shaky walking up stairs. The weakness feeling has reduced quite a

bit as my dose has gone down too.

It's something you do want to mention to your neph next time you go

in....add it to your list of questions.....just in case it is being caused

by anemia or something else.

Seems like everytime I have minor problems I ask my neph about them, he

looks over my labwork, checks me out, and then says " Yep it's most likely

just the prednisone. " :o) Nasty little drug it is but it does help some of

us quite a bit!

Dena,

At 30, your are still low. I am sorry the Epo isn't helping to raise you

higher than that. Have they tried switching you to a different product to see

it

that would help?

Better take those iron pills. If at some point you need epo, it won't work

if you first have to build up your iron stores.

I was severely anemic as well. I remember my legs burning when I

would go up the stairs, and my arms burning when I would put on

clothes. You definitely need to be taking those iron pills, they

will help! Especially since your functioning and creatinine seem to

be normal. Good luck.

I can't say I felt really weak before I started on epo. It was more like

tiring easily and especially, get short of breath quickly on just very mild

exercise. I guess not everyone feels exactly the same way though.

Dena,

I don't know how you function at 22, or even at 25-27. I feel so wiped out

when I drop to 30. I have been accused of being stubborn a time or two in my

life too, and like you, I try to use that as an asset in dealing with IgAN :-)

I am glad you have that reserve to draw on.

I think you are an exception in not responding to any of the Epo products. I

really wish there would be one that would help you. I guess the only light

at the end of the tunnel is if you do get a new kidney, it will make the

hormone and help get your levels up there...not that I am wishing you get to end

stage, but if that happens, I guess that will be one of the blessings that will

come from it.

I do hate to think of you needing to go through a hysterectomy to help the

anemia, but I understand how important it is to get your levels up too.

I wish you all the best!
