Guest guest
Hello all, I am looking for a good description of the different types of soap making like: Melt & Pour, Cold Press, Hot Press, Hand-Milled...Can anyone help me? Thanks Charlotte AZ
Guest guest
Thanks...that helps. I have been doing M & P and really like it so I was going to try Hand Milled because it doesn't sound as hard to do as using the lye but you don't like it. Is it because it is way hard? Thanks, Charlotte
Guest guest
Well, I can do descriptions but good ones? *L* Melt & Pour - this is taking a pre-made glycerin base and melting it down then pouring it into your molds. You only add color, fragrance and, if desired, additional oils (i.e., shea, etc.). No lye handling is involved and you can use the bar right after it cools. Cold Process - this form of soapmaking uses oils heated to low temperatures and combines them with a lye water solution. You add coloring and fragrance to this once the oils and lye water are combines. Once they have blended, the saponification process starts. This turns the oils and lye into soap. Cold process soap needs to be cured for 4-6 weeks. Hot Process - another form of soapmaking which uses oils and a lye and water solution. It involves heating the oils and the lye to specific temperatures using a process that I've never tried to get soap. I understand that you can use the bars immediately after cooling - or, perhaps better said, the next day. Hand milled - I believe you're referring to rebatching soap. This takes either HP or CP soap and remelting it, adding fragrances or whatever and pouring the soap into a mold. I really stink at rebatching so perhaps someone else can help with this one? I consider myself M & P, HP and rebatch challenged. However, the CP I actually can do. *L* ~ ..:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:.
