Guest guest
I've been to this website. In my opinion, this is why alternative medicine gets a bad rep. Take a bunch of scientific words, mix it up with witchcraft and try to sell it for a profit to gullible people desperate for an answer (any answer) who are frustrated with modern medicine. This is a businessman looking for a niche to exploit. In my opinion. Funny thing that this would appear in this group. Dr. Cutlers approach to diagnosis of amalgam illness as well as to detoxification is a sound, scientific, fact based approach with no hocus pocus. As a scientist, this is what I admire about his work and why I am willing to trust my health to it. No where in his book does he talk about magnets, crystals and chicken bones. Before you make up your mind as to where I am coming from. I am a scientist, a physiologist actually. I constantly study alternative medicine, nutritional medicine since I am convinced that modern medicine is missing the boat on many, many effective, health enhancing therapies. However, in trying to do this, I have to spend most of my time sifting through mumbo-jumbo, witchcraft, snake-oil, etc... call it what you will. This discredits the field of alternative medicine, it does not enhance it. Back to the original topic of Vitamin C. Actually Vitamin C IS Ascorbic Acid! This is not debatable, it is so BY DEFINITION.! It is amazing to me that someone would even mention such a ridiculous thing. Vitamin C is ascorbic acid, by definition. The same as ice is frozen water, by definition. Of course it sounds good to the uninformed, it sounds like someone has finally discovered what everybody was missing, finally someone who has figured it out! Having said this, vitamin C is not the only substance necessary to sustain a healthy organism. Yes it is better to eat whole foods since they contain many, many other substances that are beneficial to your health, in addition to vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Why these two concepts got mixed together makes no sense, ... actually it does, it's a great story to sell credibility to gullible people. By the way, the entire story is literred with things that make no sense. I practice and I preach alternative medicine. I agree with the concept of ingesting whole foods, I do it myself. However, try keeping a rational, fact based outlook on things. Many great discoveries went against the grain of science and established knowledge, however everything that goes against the grain of science and established knowledge is not necessarily a great discovery. Many times, it is snake oil. Sincerely, > > > > > > > I agree that extra salt and vitamin C will help. I have been taking > 6 > > g vitamin C per day for about 6 years. Guest guest
I guess I'm gullible then because a raw food diet, whole food vitamins (as opposed to fractionated), minerals, digestive enzymes, probiotics, chelation of metals and colon cleansing don't seem like witchcraft to me. -- In frequent-dose-chelation , " martincholette " wrote: > > I've been to this website. Guest guest
, no disrespect intended in your direction. But when you figure out what a " fractionated " vitamin is, I'd love to know. Pure and simple vitamin C is indeed, and always has been ascobic acid. It is a definition. You have to wonder how much accurate, worthwhile information is on that website when they are trying to sell people the idea that vitamin C is something other than what it is. As far as raw foods, minerals, digestive enzymes, chelation of metals, I am in agreement with you. Colon cleansing, maybe, still not sure about that. I've seen the interior of colons during endoscopic procedures in medical school, I have yet to see something to cleanse. All the guck people talk about when trying to sell colon cleansers, I have never seen. Actually colons usually look nice and clean. I'm not against colon cleansing, it may be worthwhile, I'm not sure, maybe I should try it and see what happens. Once again , I did not intend any disrespect to you. . > > > > I've been to this website. In my opinion, this is why alternative > > medicine gets a bad rep. Guest guest
> > , no disrespect intended in your direction. > > But when you figure out what a " fractionated " vitamin is, I'd love to > know. > I know what a fractionated vitamin is. Maybe this will explain it for you: In The Real Truth About Vitamins and Antioxidants (Brentwood Academic Press, 1996), author Judith DeCava, MS, LNC, examines the difference between whole food and synthetic vitamin supplements. She states that vitamins are actually groups of " chemically related compounds " that include synergistic co-factors such as amino acids, enzymes, or even simple sugars) which are necessary for a nutrient's use in the body. " (DeCava, 13) On the other hand, she says, " Synthetics are, in effect, little more than " disabled, debilitated [chemicals] of little or no value to living cells, and although the body will use them if nothing better becomes available, these nutrient substitutes certainly do not provide the same benefits that organically created elements do. " (DeCava, 13) Ms. DeCava explains that " Whole food vitamins are obtained by taking a vitamin-rich plant, removing the water and the fiber in a cold vacuum process, free of chemicals, and then packaging for stability. The entire vitamin complex in this way can be captured intact, retaining its " functional and nutritional integrity. " She points out that " Vitamins are just like other food factors: they exist as extremely complex groups of associated substances of a synergistic (cooperative) nature, and that if the complex is taken apart (fractionated), it is no longer capable of producing its normal, nutritional and metabolic effect or function. " (DeCava, 23-24) She states that supplements " cannot simply be an individual chemical or several chemicals. " They must be " food concentrates, intact, integrated, with their vitamin complexes incorporated so as to retain their functional and nutritional integrity. " (DeCava, 23-24) Natural vitamin complexes " readily find their way into the normal chemical actions and changes (biochemistry) essential to energy, growth, repair, function, and sustenance of life. " (DeCava, 30) In contrast, synthetics are " chemically-isolated...fractions--single vitamin components--even if several or many are combined into one tablet or capsule. " The synthetic product is always a simple, isolated chemical substance, while the natural product is a complex mixture of related and similar and interdependent materials. " (DeCava, 31-32) ____________________ In summary, we are used to taking mega-doses of vitamin supplements that provide high percentages of the recommended daily allowances (RDA). We take the capsules or tablets and feel we're ready to go. According to Ms. DeCava, we are fooling ourselves. She states that " ...a minute amount of a vitamin that is left intact in its whole food form is tremendously more functional, powerful, and effective nutritionally than a large amount of a chemically-pure, vitamin fraction. Therefore, only small amounts of natural vitamin complexes are required. They are organic micronutrients, nutrients needed in tiny quantities, to accomplish many big biochemical jobs.
