Guest guest
Natasha and Carol, Thanks for the replies. I added photos of Tom's head to my website. There is one front view, one back view and 4 from the top. Let me know what you think. http://www.droflet.net/head Tara mom to Tom and Abby (8.5 months old) > I joined this group because I'm worried about the shape of my 8.5 > month old son's head. Guest guest
Hello Tara, and welcome to the group. First off, your Son is ADORABLE!!!! I looked at his head pictures and would say that he is probably mild, as far as measuremts, though possibly low end moderate. It's always hard to tell from pictures. At his age, time is of the essence, so I agree with Natasha that you should decide if you are happy with how his head looks NOW. If not, then you may want to go ahead and have him banded, since there is no guarantee that he will have any natural rounding. There have been cases of natural rounding, though there are many kids out there who have unresolved plagio because they had little or no natural rounding and were not banded or repositioned, either because the parents didn't know about it, or the Doctors were not pro-active. I have a very good friend with a Son who is 3.5 years old and he has noticeable plagio. She was concerned about his head when he was little, but the Dr passed her off and said it would round out on its own and she took his word for it. Unfortunately, his head didn't improve much at all and he still has plagio, misalligned ears and slight facial asymmetry. Just make sure that, whatever you decide to do, that you are happy with how his head looks... to YOU. And you will be doing the right thing. Good luck with the appts and let us know what you decide to do. Guest guest
Hi Tara, I tried emailing you privately but for some reason it bounced??? weird huh... Tom is a cutie pie!!! I think you mentioned you have an appt for him tomorrow - I am anxious to hear what the ped says... I took Hunter in for PT today, and they are so impressed at his progress - his helmet seems to be helping his tort issues too... how is Abby's head - any issues there? As for us, Hunter was a mild case, but we decided to do the helmet because for the last 3.5 months the repositioning didn't seem to help at all, and the flat spot wasn't filling out. We wanted him to have a nice head shape - and not give the kids in school a reason to make fun of him... insurance seems to cover it (80%) - and the selling factor for us was that we hadn't heard of anyone who regretted doing the treatment... Oh, and now that Hunter is rolling over and over - we don't need to worry about him hurting his head on anything cause his head is protected by the helmet! But I'm sure he'll need to learn when he gets it off that hitting his head hurts! I'm sure you'll figure this all out, but one thing to think about is that the sooner you start treatment the shorter the treatment time will be... the older they get - the longer the treatment takes... Hugs, Pam PS: glad you found this site! > > I joined this group because I'm worried about the shape of my 8.5 > > month old son's head. It seems flat on the upper right side. Guest guest
Tara, I looked at the pics, it is a little hard to see because of the size of the pics, but I do see what you mean. It does look like there is flattening on the right side of the head, I can't get a good look at the ears, but do they line up across from each other. My opinion would be to have him evaluated by CT if there is one near you. CAROLG > > I joined this group because I'm worried about the shape of my 8.5 > > month old son's head. Guest guest
Those baby blues just jump out at you! Beautiful eyes! As for his shape, that type of plagio most likely (just my experience on this board) will not correct on its own. Also, his ears look like they could be uneven, are they? If so, they could only be realigned with an active band. Natasha > > I joined this group because I'm worried about the shape of my 8.5 > > month old son's head. It seems flat on the upper right side.
