will get sick. "

>4. What have been your symptoms before diagnosis?

" My tummy hurt some and I never told Mommy. " I didn't know then that Lucy

was in pain, but now that I look back it makes sense. She was becoming more

clingy and needy of me (her mother). She would cry when I dropped her off at

classes with people she's known all her life. I couldn't figure out what was

going on. Now I realize she wasn't feeling good. Lucy was very sleepy and hard

to wake up, lethargic, distracted, very shy and quiet. She had bad

constipation, almost no appetite, and has been growing less as she got older.

She is on the short side, but not unusually so. Our pediatrician wasn't worried

about her height, said that was probably her build. I was planning to ask about

the other issues at her yearly check up, but then we took the blood test because

her cousin has CD, and I started reading about CD, and I had a strong suspicion

that's what it was. We had the blood test in May and Lucy's diagnoses was

completed via endoscopy and biopsy in July. She has been GF since Aug. Now she

is happy, lively, talkative, energetic. People have said she seems " completely

different " and " healthy. " Her bowel problems are gone, she eats much more than

ever, she's gained weight and grown since the summer. While I am not happy she

has CD, I couldn't be more pleased with the results of her GF diet.

" I am sad that I don't get to eat other food that I like, but sometimes I am

happy because I get to have some things I like, like M & Ms. And I like having

Celiac with my Daddy. I love my Daddy. The food my Mommy makes is very

delicious. Sometimes I get to have things that I really like and nobody else

can have. I like pretending my dollies have Celiac too. "
