Guest guest
Al -- this was posted on the Texas Senate's website. Virtually anyone with any familiarity in state government and politics knows that the interim committee charges issued by the Speaker and Lieutenant Governor provide a good insight into issues that the Legislature may address in the next session. Question -- was EMSAT aware of this? -Wes Ogilvie, MPA, JD, EMT-B Austin, Texas Who knew about this one? Guest guest
No, Don, the websites only had the list of interim committee charges (www.senate.state.tx.us and www.house.state.tx.us). Usually, the committees hold hearings and accept public testimony on these issues. EMSAT is monitoring these things, right????? -Wes Who knew about this one? Guest guest
This is nothing new. It was forst conducted by Pam West and I back about 1994. During that period we visited all 11 Public Health Regions, at that time, and conducted a combination of town hall meetings and private meetings with what was termed, " the good, the bad and the ugly " of EMS by the then Regional Managers. Each regional trip was a minimum of three days and most often a week. During this period we spoke with providers in an effort to get a better handle on their issues, what they saw as their problems and then just sort of spent hours brainstorming options to promote EMS, increase retention of staff and generally imporve its importance in the eyes of the " jurisdictional fathers " The results were bound and submitted to legislative session for their review, with what i would say to the best of my ability " no results " . I also believe Kathy Perkins repeated the process a couple years later, although I am not positive about that nor did I ever have the opportunity to review the results. Not sure but believe I may still have the original report in my apt somewhere. >>> agarcia@... 2/21/2006 3:33:01 PM >>> Wes, Where did you find this information? Guest guest
EMSAT's legislative liaison notified us about this on February 10th. Yes, the Texas Legislature often has Interim Charges. Typically, Interim charges are issues that have come up during the regular session and failed to be adequately addressed. That may not be the case on this particular issue. The committee in question (State Affairs) will hold hearings on this issue as well as the others in the list of Interim Charges. As of this date there is not a hearing schedule for this committee. According to our legislative liaison, they will probably hold at least some of these hearings during the upcoming special session. , President EMSAT In a message dated 2/21/06 2:50:09 P.M.
