What dosage and how often are you taking ALA?

What sort of liver problem is it? What are your symptoms? Did

this start when you first started ALA, or has it developed recently?

Hi Nadeem,

What do you mean when you say that you get liver problem? What are

the symptoms? Have you had any tests that suggest liver problems?

What dose of ALA have you been using and how frequently (every 3 h?).

What supplements are you taking and what doses.

There are plenty of supplements on Andy's supplement list that support

the liver.

I looked this product up. It contains:

# Choline (Bitartrate).......250 mg

# Inositol.......150 mg

# l-Methionine (Methionine).......100 mg

# Beta vulgaris (Beet).......50 mg

# Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion).......25 mg

# Acacia catechu (Catechin).......25 mg

# Chelidonium majus (Celandine).......25 mg

I wouldn't use it.

Look on p 133-134 and you will see the supplements that Andy

recommends and doseages. Some of the things on that list that will

really help your liver are milk thistle extract ( equiv to 250-750 mg

silymarin), flax oil, inositol, magnesium, B complex, zinc, moybdenum,

taurine.

WHile you are there double check and see which supplements you are not

taking then ask in the group and we may be able to tell you why you

need them.

If you look on p. 135 of Amalgam Illness you will find many of the

supplements that are recommended for liver support. Note how many B

vitamins he lists there. Note also that most of the herbs in your

product are crossed off. That means that they are not recommended.

Thorne makes a product called TAPS. You can't take the S part of it

because it stands for silymarin, which is milk thistle. You could

look up the other ingredients and try them. (The T is turmeric, A is

artichoke, etc.)

On the Autism-Mercury board there has been much discussion lately of

how vitamin C generates glutathione, which detoxes.

Glycine and taurine can increase bile production, which helps to detox

the liver.

ALA, which should only be used on a chelation protocol, is good for

the liver.

I believe calcium d-glucarate speeds up one phase 2 pathway

(glucuronidation), helping get rid of xenoestrogens.

Addressing sulfation problems with magnesium sulfate and/or molybdenum

can help if you have that problem.

Various supplements can help with methylation (methyl B-13, TMG, etc.).

Amalgam Illness starting about pg. 40 has quite a bit of information

about the various liver pathways and ways to speed them up or slow

them down. It all depends on which ones are issues for you. You can

buy it at www.noamalgam.com.

I've had it 4 years and am just know understanding parts or seeing the

relevance to me, so I know how it can be.

Great Smokies has a liver detox profile test. I've never done it and

don't know how useful it is, but you could use www.onibasu.com to see

others' comments. I don't see it on the Direct Labs list.

(http://www.directlabs.com/testtypes.php#liv) You could call them to

see if they have it or you might need a doctor to order it.

There are various tests of methylation. Amy Yasko has some genetic

testing that is supposed to determine which kinds of methylation

supplements would be most helpful, but again, I don't have any

first-hand experience with that.

Other than that, I think you can just look at the various tables

around pg. 40 in Amalgam Illness to try to make an educated guess

about what might help in your particular circumstances. Others here

might have better suggestions. Sandy G. is right that

phosphatidylcholine is good for your liver. I think it is the liver

supplement that has made the most marked difference for me personally.
