Guest guest
You are definitely in need of thyroid hormone. If you are mercury toxic, you need to support your adrenals before taking thyroid hormone; no doubt. You can do this with " Isocort " which is sold over the internet if you cannot get hydrocortisone or Cortef prescribed. The best thyroid hormone for us mercury toxic folks is a T4/T3 combo, like Armour or Thyrolar, but not T4 alone like Synthroid. This group can help you further with any questions, but the naturalthyroidhormones group which many of us here belong to also is very very knowledgable about thyroid. You could try posting your results there as well, and they will tell you you are hypothyroid, since the TSH reference range was officially changed to a cut off of " 3 " a couple of years ago, but even the labs haven't caught on yet, and most doctors don't even seem to know this for some very odd reason. This is why we cannot trust them anymore. Now, the endocrinology Association of America is looking to change it again to a cut-off of 2. You are hypo with those ranges in my humble opinion. Guest guest
Michel, To be optimal, a Free T4 should be at least half-way in range, and the Free T3 should be in the upper third or even over range. Your Free T4 is there, but your T3 is way too low. Your high TSH shows that your pituitary is trying mightily to stimulate your hormone. In a way you're lucky, because the one indicator that a lot of docs go by to tell if you're hypo is the TSH, and your TSH shows you need thyroid supplementation. It's hard to tell exactly with a Total T3 instead of a Free T3, but since your T3 is so much lower than your T4, your body might have trouble converting T4 to T3. Selenium can be helpful for that. The optimal thyroid treatment is dessicated natural thyroid such as Armour. Avoid any T4 only meds such as Synthroid. Lynn > I got some results from blood testing.. Guest guest
Thanks for your answer and explanations.. I am hoping to get the rest of the results some day.. could you please give me the complete link for the Naturalthyroidhormones.. thanks.. I think I am going to post these results there as well.. You mention adrenal support before thyroid hormones.. you know I am vegetarian.. are these products you mentioned suitable for vegetarians.. otherwise are there any alternatives.. thanks again.. I would have no problem asking an open minded doc to prescribe me these but I have to make sure they are suitable for vegetarians... Guest guest
Hi Lynn,, Thanks again for this new information. Yes, I did post my DDI Hair Test results on this list, it is post # 8652. If you don't mind having a look, maybe you could find more elements regarding Thyroid.. Also, somewhere (I don't remember if it was on this forum) I found some advice regarding Herbs to help with Thyroid function as follows: * Bladderwrack (fucus vesiculosus):it's form of Kelp * Licorice * Saw Palmetto What do you think about these herbs/supplements.. are they worth trying? Many thanks.. Michel > > > anyway as I mentioned earlier I am vegetarian.. Is Armour suitable > > for vegetarians? It sounds like an animal product to me.. Guest guest
Michel, The link to the group is: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/ In Canada there is a product called " Thyroid " which is equivalent to Armour. I think it is from pig thyroid, so wouldn't be vegetarian. I am taking sustained release T3 (compounded) and (was taking)Synthroid (T4). These are synthetic, so would be suitable. I dropped the synthroid and am only taking the SR T3 now. I like it the best of anything I have tried. I think the Thyrolar might be synthetic. Would have to check with your doc or pharmacist. (Be careful talking about synthetics on the " natural " hormone group. Might start a storm. As others have mentioned, you are fairly 'lucky' that your TSH is high. Getting thyroid hormone shouldn't be too difficult. Regards > > > > You are definitely in need of thyroid hormone.
