Someone's health may depend on it.>> Sissi, From a therapist standpoint, a little boy who is only 5 should not be expected to have the fine motor and motor planning skills to write....period. The schools are creating problems for themselves by pushing handwriting earlier and earlier. NOW, add to that the fact that this 5 yr old boy is autistic (a condition now considered in the therapy world to include a movement disorder), and you have a situation where a child who has basically been set up for failure is being debased because of the adult's ignorance. THAT is my opinion. BTW, is this the same teacher who does the " basket hold " ? Raena (who thinks NO kindergartner should be doing this much writing)

Guest guest
I really can't believe a five year old (ANY 5 year old) could be expected to do better! can only write his name for god's sake and it takes half the page! Did you notice HER letters aren't uniform either??? No kid should come home with an un-smiley face on his paper at that age. Go get her! Guest guest
NO Sissi, IT IS NOT JUST YOU. I don't know what to say, but I feel hot inside just seeing that paper. I'm sure you have already got a ton of responses on this because I'm behind in reading digests, but I'm writing in anyway. *EVEN IF* Boone could " do better " - which I highly disbelieve considering his AGE! (not Autism), then this is really a wrong way to go about correcting it! If I had got this paper back, being the NT school-lover I was back then, I would have been crushed. I would have been crying to my Mom. WHAT IN THE HELL IS SHE DOING??????? I'm sorry I'm yelling so much. I'm just truly angry! This is just utterly ridiculous to give to a 5 year old. Do what you have to do. Just don't end up in jail. :/ ~ Karin

Boones' handwritting is way above and beyond MItchel's (7 and 1st grade) at time's MItchel's is barely legible. I think Boone did a GREAT job for ANY Kindergartener - autism aside! Guest guest
Are you keeping him home? Jacquie H Re: Maybe it's just me You guys are, as always, terrific. I'm exhausted and I have a lot to say, but I'm going to save it until tomorrow. I am printing out all the replies (and blacking out names and email addies). I'm taking copies to the principal, the sped director and my attorney. I honestly believe this is their (newest) way of retaliating against me for the restraint issues. What they'd like for me to do is react. I'm not going to do that in the way they expect. I'm going to continue the paper trail. I don't believe this is a kindergerten worksheet anyway. What this is -- is war. (((hugs to you all))) I'm falling behind, but I always do in a crisis. It hasn't been a good day. Boone doesn't like sad faces much. I'll let you guys know what happens since I intend to talk to sped head and the principal in the a.m. I'm also going to ask to be out on the agenda at the next school board meeting. This is ridiculous.I've got to be smart about this though. Sissi

Guest guest
I showed that nasty paper to just now. Really really the wrong approach for kindergarten. Probably the wrong approach for Ph.d. students... Poor Boone. And he still loves school? Well, she's working on that love, isn't she? Guest guest
That's not a teacher. What more can I say. However, maybe her health could be left intact, but, maybe her employment should not. Thea > I'm not going to say what I think. There are teachers here. Maybe they can give their opinions. Guest guest
-'s handwriting is llke this, his teacher's at his previous school would comment on it being sloppy in reports (not to him with a frowny face).I could never figure that out, he is pdd, lots of normal 5,6,7 year olds have sloppy handwriting. However, he is also in a new school for precisely that reason. Some teachers look to criticize. What about a drs handwriting, its just awful. What goes through these peoples heads-it must not be reasonable thoughts.
