Guest guest
The sad face and you can do better is as a teacher and a parent completely unacceptable. Not to mention her penmanship leaves a lot to be desired. Sully had it written into his IEP that corrections were not to be made on his papers because it caused him too much upset. He is finally accepting red pen on his papers but it is minimal and the teacher NEVER NEVER says do better! Boil that teacher in oil Sissi!!! CHRIS Maybe it's just me I'm not going to say what I think. There are teachers here. Maybe they can give their opinions. Maybe some of you moms with kids Boone's age can give your opinions. Maybe some of you who have kids who have been Boone's age can give your opinions. Maybe I'm just overly-sensitive. For those of you who don't know, Boone is five years old and in kindergarten. Please look at this and tell me what YOU think. Please be completely honest with me. Guest guest
I think this teacher is a jerk. It looks like he has motor problems, but most of the answers were correct. What is she doing for this kid’s self-esteem. I am the opposite with Dessirée (I am not a teacher. I am just a mother) I tried to tell her what is good in her and correct her in a respectful way. Do you think Boone has written this way to bother her? Does she think so?. She needs to read some books like How to talk so children will learn ( this is for NT children and will proof her wrong). I don’t have any advice on how to handle this, but I am sure you will get a good piece of advice here. I just wanted to support you. Guest guest
What the heck is wrong with people. This is really good work for an average kindergartener for Boone it's outstanding. The negative comments are so not needed. I'm sorry but I'm basing this on at that age and let me tell you I can read it , it took me till this year to get peter to even be able to write where I could. (just a reference 's IQ is higher then mine) Ughh this upsets me so much. It's not negativity these children need it's love support and understanding. Why knock them down, why not build them up . Guest guest
Sissi, I am a teacher of 26 years experience (9 yrs. first grade, 13 years kindergarten, 2 years developmental first grade and 2 years Title I Reading First Grade.) Here's what I think: This lady has a MAJOR problem. His work is wonderful for a kdg. student at this time of year, esp. one with the dx of autism. If she has a problem with all caps, she can work on it at handwriting time and in another way. Many kdg. students still write on worksheets in all caps, esp. if they are copying from the board to paper. He has done a great job writing words in the blanks and making them make sense. Many of the kids still can't get the right words in the right blank at this time of year. It is obvious that she is unable to look at the positive side to this worksheet. She has focussed (sp?) entirely on the negative. IMO, this type of worksheet is fairly worthless for kdg. students because the majority of them are copying words they can't even read! What is the point? And here she has a student who CAN read and put the right answers in the blank and what does she do, but focus on what he can't do (in her opinion...) The giant sad face and written message are the worst since she knows he can read it. I guess she prefers the neatly printed ones written in all lowercase letters from that little girl that can't read a damn thing on the page, huh? If she wants to work on handwriting, how about doing it on lined paper with guides and samples on the same page? Handwriting without Tears is an excellent program for this. This worksheet is a worthless piece of busywork IMO and she needs to watch what she writes on papers to any kid. Does she EVER write a positive comment? If Boone's papers are usually neater and written in all lowercase letters then maybe he hurried. But who can blame him? Why should he waste his time on this kind of nonsense? How old is she and how long has she been teaching kdg.? I don't like her. <vbgrin> Leggs

Here it is: I personally thinkthat the TEACHER needs to show perfect penmanship in her OWN writing. She illustratessome of the worst examples of DeNealian handwriting I have EVER seen! Can't SHE write more neatly? BTW DeNealian handwriting IMO sucks big time for kids this age especially those with any fine motor problems. Why do schools use it? Guest guest
I totally agree with Georga on this. This woman is a complete bitch (the teacher, not Georga!) and I'd have her ass in a sling. She obviously does not like Boone, and I'd pull him out of there. It's not fair to him, no matter what they promise will be done. They obviously don't care about him there, or they'd be doing more to oversee what she's doing. He's going to be so messed up you're never going to be able to get him straightened out. Just my .02, but it really pisses me off when special kids (or any kids) keep getting knocked down like this. ellen Re: Maybe it's just me Sissi ~ I worry for Boone. I really do.
