Guest guest
You could try taking benadryl to get rid of the hives. I had a bad reaction to PTU but did ok on tap. Of course they are from the same family of meds though. I hope you dont have to have RAI. Guest guest
I am taking something for the hives and the endo has told me to stop the Tap so I should get better in the next few days. And then I will have to pick up my prescription for the PTU. We'll see how it goes from there. Techie > > > Hi Techi, > > > Sorry to hear about the hives. Guest guest
Hi Techie >>>>I didn't get any bloodwork done at this point. Is it that important to >>>>get them done? I am hoping that the reactions was from the bush that I >>>>trimmed on the weekend but my GP and endo doesn't seem to think so >>>>because the rashes are pretty much all over so they said it is something >>>>systemic, something that I had inhaled or ingested. I was even thinking >>>>of being sneaky and going back on the Tap but on a lower dose and see >>>>how my body will react to it. I am not sure that I can get generic Tap >>>>here in Vancouver though. But I will certainly try PTU first.<<<< Elaine can better explain this and I am sure she will when she gets on. She works overnights so it may be later tonight or tomorrow. Bloodwork is important...and I would think your doc would want to check your liver panel to make sure there is nothing going on with that and the PTU. Also, when you get bloodwork, might as well get the doc trained early...ask for a copy of all of your labs, you have a right to them and there really should be no problem. On the copy it will show the test, then your levels then the expected level and the unit used to measure. It will give you a better idea of what is going on as time moves on. If you can keep records of them you will see what is going on, and when you journal, especially your good days, you will be able to figure out what your levels need to be at for you to feel good. Technie, I know you want your TAP because it is helping you, but I wouldn't go back on it, not without your doctor knowing. If the allergic reaction is from the TAP and you go back on it, you could go into anaphalactic (sp?) shock and die. I am allergic to penicillan and have been down that road. Thank God I was at the hospital when they gave me the injection and I did that. It is terrifing. My 3rd week into PTU I was having a problem, called my doc, she said stop it, I did for 72 hours, then called her back and we decided for me to go back on it at half the dose for a week, if no problems, up it back to where it was. I have been doing fine with it, but I had no hives either. So please, don't do that without talking it over with your doctor...it could be dangerous. Hearn in this group is from Canada so hopefully she can pop in with some info for you on the generic form of TAP. But I do know there is a lot you can't get that we can...but there is also stuff you can buy over the counter that we need scripts for...go figure!
