Guest guest
Hi Techie, There are many people who couldnt' take one but did fine on the other drug...so don't give up hope yet! Did you get your labs done? How was your white count and liver panel? I don't know a lot about the allergic reactions, but have read several boards where they talk about it not being the drug but the filler they use to put it together...if that is the case you may do just fine on PTU (a different drug company) or even the generic for of TAP (much cheaper!). I hope others in the know will pop in and talk with you about this. Don't give up! Guest guest
Hi Techi, Sorry to hear about the hives. I have read in many places that if you are allergic to one, you are most likely not allergic to the other. I'm sure Elaine will know. I have also 'talked' to lots of gals here in cyberland, that had to switch, and most were fine. So keep a positive thought. The PTU has to be at least every 8 hr., so if they failed to tell you, like they did me, here you go. It also tastes really bad, so you will learn how to get it down, using a 'fling' type technique soon. I have see some of the young crazy gals, that were too hyper to think at the time, choose RAI because they didn't like the taste. Go figure ! Personally, I didn't notice it so much after the first month or so. At first , it seemed like I tasted it all day. This was perhaps before I really learned how to 'fling' it. And thanks for your observation about you eyes on Tap, one small bright note for me. -Pam-

Guest guest
Hey Pam, I never really noticed the bad taste of PTU either, until one day I popped it in my mouth without my water handy LOL...won't make that mistake again. I drink a full 8 ounce glass of water with it so I don't keep what little taste is occasionally noticeable. Guest guest
Thanks for the support Jody. I didn't get any bloodwork done at this point. Is it that important to get them done? I am hoping that the reactions was from the bush that I trimmed on the weekend but my GP and endo doesn't seem to think so because the rashes are pretty much all over so they said it is something systemic, something that I had inhaled or ingested. I was even thinking of being sneaky and going back on the Tap but on a lower dose and see how my body will react to it. I am not sure that I can get generic Tap here in Vancouver though. But I will certainly try PTU first. Hoping for the best, Techie > Hi Techie, > There are many people who couldnt' take one but did fine on the other > drug...so don't give up hope yet! Guest guest
Thanks Pam. I have noticed a slight bad taste with the Tap as well, or maybe coz I have had a cold these past few days as well. My endo told me about having to take PTU every 8 hrs, I think that was one of her pitches for trying to lean me towards having RAI again bec PTU is a bit " inconvenient " . But I was firm in telling her that I wanted to try PTU. I am really believing that the ATDs are working for me even though I haven't had any blood work yet to prove it. A few people though have commented that I look liked I had gained a bit of weight, probably only 2 lbs. I haven't really weighed myself yet but my gauge is the size of my wrist and it seems to have filled up a little bit. I guess I don't wanna really weigh myself just in case I didn't gain any and would be a bit disappointed so I will wait until after the bloodwork in 10 days. I hope the hives clear up too as we have to attend my husband's Christmas party this weekend! Thanks again for your support. Techie > Hi Techi, > Sorry to hear about the hives. Guest guest
Ah.. Amy has just reminded me. I have a bad cold. Does anyone know whether it is safe to take any cold medicines when you are on PTU and beta blockers ? Unfortunately I only seem to get voicemail when I contact my doctor right now.
