Guest guest Posted May 12, 2000 Report Share Posted May 12, 2000 Greetings, I'm new here. My wife experiences severe pain for about 10 seconds when our darling 3-week old son first latches on. The boy is a vigorous sucker, and my wife thinks that perhaps he is chomping down with his gums at first latch. We've seen a lactation consultant, who praised his latch in general. Also, the consultant was not too concerned about the initial pain. Since we read that BFing is supposed to be free of pain, I am wondering whether this is a normal situation or not.
