And now that I look further, I see, " 0 to 20 mg/dL for adult. Elderly may be

slightly higher than adults. " This from Mosby's Diagnostic and Laboratory

Test Reference.

Wow! Can't believe I'm answering a question from Margaret. :)

Normal BUN for adult is 5-20, for a child under 2 it's, 4-15 per QLDB

2002 pg. 652.

I found it under urea nitrogen, blood instead of BUN.

Thanks everyone, looks like the normal ranges from 8-18 to 10-20 to 10-26

depending on the book, or maybe depending on the lab. I have been really

pleased with the new Stedman's Path/Lab book, with the nice place in the back

with all of the lab values, but still can't figure out why BUN isn't listed in

there. Almost sorry I sold mine from HPI when I got this new one. Thanks again

everyone. Margaret

Margaret, in my Lil Red Notebook I have a tab for normal labs. I show it as 8

to 18. There's a list in the back of Neil Abbreviations for all the

normal labs. I, too, have often had difficulty finding normals, so I was

pleased to see it there. :)

Should it always be exactly the same from reference to reference, or are

there differences of opinion of what is normal? My Stedman's Concise shows

in the laboratory reference range values appendix for urea nitrogen, serum,

under conventional units 6-20 mg/dL. ??? :o)

Sylvia, Thank you so much, that answers my question as to why I couldn't find

it. I did just check under urea nitrogen in Stedman's and there it is. Somehow

I had it in my mind as BUN, so never thought to look under urea. Thanks again,

Margaret, in my Lil Red Notebook I have a tab for normal labs. I show it as 8

to 18. There's a list in the back of Neil Abbreviations for all the

normal labs. I, too, have often had difficulty finding normals, so I was
