Guest guest
Kitty, I was on prednisone this summer. Unfortunately, I can't offer you much help. I was only on it briefly. You might want to seek out a rheumatology discussion forum as I know a couple of people with rheumatoid arthritis who take prednisone. Hopefully they can offer you some tips. I felt generally quite ill after the first week and was very grouchy. I did, however, just stop taking it at my doctor's instruction. Good luck to you! J. Guest guest
Kitty, I have taken Prednisone in the past on several occassions as I am highly allergic to several antibiotics and have had anaphalaxis due to Penicillian, etc. I have not heard of some of the side effects you are mentioning such as swollen lips, etc. From my best understanding, if your face, eyes, lips or throat swell in reaction to a medicine, you need to call your doc asap and get checked out. For all you know you could be having an allergic reaction to it and it is nothing to play around with. You can die from not being able to breath, etc if your esophogus closes or swells shut. Please call your doc to get some answers. W

Guest guest
High dose prednisone can cause fluid retention (which might be what is making you short of breath), high blood pressure, diabetes, and not just confusion but I've had patients develop hallucinations on it. I doubt your hives and skin rash are due to the prednisone. Could it be due to the IVIG? The shortness of breath and swollen lips could be an allergic reaction, perhaps to the IVIG, rather than due to the Prednison. That can be a very dangerous situation. Call your doctor, these are very worrisome symptoms. Let you doctor (or whoever is on call) advise you if you should go to the ER. Generally speaking, shortness of breath, swollen lips, hives, and confusion would make me want the patient same day by someone even if I couldn't see them myself.
