Personally, I enjoyed it and I think it's pretty dang close to the

truth. I love sarcasm at the expense of 12 step groups. I really

really hate 12 step groups. Actually, what I hate most is people who

haven't a clue about 12 step groups, talking about how great they are.

I hate when people are uncomfortable with the pain I've endured

because of 12 step treatment, and deal with their discomfort by

telling me I should be quiet and let the abuse continue.

It doesn't bother me to hear people say, AA helped me. In fact, I like

hearing that. I like hearing that people are actually helped, whether

it's by medication, support groups, therapy, a new job or hobby or

relationship.

What bothers me is the idea that the 12 steps are some kind of

universal answer, because they're not. Religion is not a universal

answer, neither is capitalism nor communism for that matter. Not love

nor logic nor art nor science.

I better write my own post because I'm rambling in response to this

post...

Ive known two AA friends say that AA men only ever went to CoDA to

find women. It's kinda like having AL-Anon groups youre allowed in.

When CoDA started in London it was almost all women; by the end, it

was getting to be almost all men, the women having retreated into a

women's only group which threw me out of the building once. I wasnt

trying to attend their meeting, I was just clearing up after a Sex an

Love Addicts meeting that I'd just been in, which got me off to a bad

start...

In response to your original post, I wrote a sort of diatribe about

how I enjoyed a laugh at AA's expense. I believe that's what Piper's

referring to.

To Piper: It feels good to be understood, doesn't it? :)
