Hello moms: This message is specifically for other moms with a child who is super picky like my boy (who has PDD). I've been buying different fish oils just trying to give to my son, but he would always detect it in his juice. I FINALLY found one that he takes in juice or STRAIGHT from a spoon !!!! I bought it at Nutrition S'Mart in Pembroke Pines. But it's probably online, too or even at Whole Foods Market. I found this fish oil brand in the refrigerated section. It is made by BARLEAN. It's called Omega Swirl Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplement and it's pharmaceutical grade distilled and very good tasting !!! I cannot believe I can finally give my son fish oil. Guest guest
I really was thinking he is sick less...I hate saying things like this out loud...we have had to stop it due to a bleeding issue. There is rumor, though not proven I guess since i get mixed answers, that fish oil has an effect on the platelets...my son takes blood thinners and we are having some issues. They made me stop all supplements so that we can rule out that this is the problem...he still asks for it when he sees it in the refrigerator...wonder if flax has the same effects. Guest guest
That stinks because it's the vitamin A in that form that is good for him. Many of our kids cannot process other forms of vitamin A. I believe I recently posted some research on it but never saw it come through so I don't know what happened to it. Here it is again... http://www.whale.to/a/megson5.html http://www.autism.com/treatable/supplement/megson.htm http://www.megson.com/readings/MedicalHypothesis.pdf From: alfia37@... Guest guest
Yes.... I started my son on Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil at age 3, when we first started seeing a DAN doctor. He used to look at things sideways and put his face up close to the tv. Within a month, he was sitting on the couch to watch tv and his vision improved significantly. I mean significantly. He was a formula fed baby. The research indicates that many of our kids with a genetic predisposition are unable to process certain forms of vitamin A (among other vitamins). The vitamin A in formula is a type. Couple that with one of the vaccinations that depletes the body's stores of Vitamin A, and voila, we have a child who looks at things sideways, does a lot of hand eye stimming, avoids eye contact, etc.... After 2 tablespoons daily of Cod Liver Oil for one month, his vision improved. Thereby eliminating one of the symptoms of his autism. I previously posted some research on this. It didn't get sent though, don't know why. But I reattached it to another post on this topic. You can also just google: cod liver oil and autism, g alpha protein defect I strongly recommend this biomedical intervention... Guest guest
Hello: My son is almost 6 and he is doing these things lately. Where I can buy Cod Liver oil? Does it come in flavors? Any bad side effects? Jeannette To: sList Sent: Sun, February 7, 2010 7:29:54 PMSubject: Re: Fish Oil that I discovered for my picky son and It tastes GREAT! You can also just google: cod liver oil and autism, g alpha protein defect I strongly recommend this biomedical intervention. .. Guest guest
I would just recommend to do some research on whatever you choose in order to check their quality testing. Also, if using capsules to swallow or chewables, make sure the final amount is equivalent to 2 teaspoons daily. Our DAN doc indicated our son can go up to 4 teaspoons. I believe I indicated "tablespoons" in the previous email. I believe its "teaspoons".... Trying to picture the syringe we use I recall wanting to give him chewables but the doc said he'd be chewing them all day long in order to obtain the suggested amount. I've been buying different fish oils just trying to give to my son, but he would always detect it in his juice.I FINALLY found one that he takes in juice or STRAIGHT from a spoon !!!!I bought it at Nutrition S'Mart in Pembroke Pines. But it's probably online, too or even at Whole Foods Market.I found this fish oil brand in the refrigerated section. It is made by BARLEAN. It's called Omega Swirl Omega-3 Fish Oil Supplement and it's pharmaceutical grade distilled and very good tasting !!! I cannot believe I can finally give my son fish oil. Guest guest
Yes, but if you're deficient, or depleted, then it will take a lot to get to a toxic level. My son has been on vitamins (with 400%) of the daily rda of vitamin A (in betacarotene form-since again, that is the form he can absorb) and 2-4 teaspoons of CLO for the past 3 years. That was my concern initially also. We have monitored with labs, etc. and he has been fine. Again, if one is depleted or deficient, it will take a long while to get to a toxic level, but still should be monitored for safety. Vitamin A is also one of the few vitamins that is toxic in higher doses... so it's prudent to be extra careful. Many of our kids cannot process other forms of vitamin A. I believe I recently posted some research on it but never saw it come through so I don't know what happened to it. Regards, Darla Haskell RE: Fish Oil that I discovered for my picky son and It tastes GREAT! I agree, my son takes it as well. Just do not get confused with the flax oil one that the same company sells. It needs to be refrigerated! Shirly Shirly Gilad BCBA,RN, FNP, MS Behavioral Therapy and then some.
