Guest guest
Ok, this is where I am an expert. Constipation has been an issue for us since my son was 2 weeks old. Due to technical difficulties, I had to stop breastfeeding him at that point. My ped told me to put him on prune juice at that point and even though I skeptical, it worked like a charm. He also told me about the the Karo but I didn't feel good about all that sugar going into his bottle. We did about 2 ounces a day until he was about 5 months and then when started eating food, we stocked up on Gerber stage 1 prunes and that has kept him regular as rain since. You have to be super diligent with it or they get back into the cycle of constipation all over again. Anyway, thought I'd give my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps. Guest guest
DS had the same problem. We ended up switching his formula from a milk based to a soy based ... from day one of the new formula, he started having BMs ... I know it was good for him but I kinda miss just having to change wet diapers. bad mommy, bad mommy. --- Manon <jeffandmanon@...> wrote: > Ok, this is where I am an expert. Guest guest
na had some issues with constipation when she was 2 months. We used karo syrup - 1 Tablespoon a day. It worked. However, I didn't like the sugar or the botulism risk. So, now Kiersten has a bit of an issue, however she may be working it out. We had switched from Enfamil to Member's Mark (Sam's Club brand) formula. They have the exact same nutrients, but the enfamil is a much finer powder - hmm. Now we are switching back. However, I would first try prune, apple or pear juice. I also read somewhere about brown sugar in water but I don't know amounts. mom to na (now 2), DOC Grad & Kiersten (5 weeks) preventative repo www.thefilyaws.compennylac <pennylac@...> wrote: DS had the same problem. Guest guest
Yes this is how much I love my ped.- NOT! ME- My son has chronic constiptation. He has had it since he got his shots on his two month physical. Now I know for a fact that it has the shots that thru his poor little body for a loop. Till that day he pooped thru the moon. I dont care what people say. I'm in the process of trying to weed out the true necessary ones and the ones that aren't because I really feel as the shots do more harm than good, but thats a topic for another day. Anyways PED- No he's not constipated BF babies are NEVR constipated. ME- No trust me he cries and screams whenevr he has a bm, and its very hard and thick. Like playdough. PED-No he's fine. So I tried the Karo syrup when he was @ 3mths old never did anything for him. He doesn't use a bottle so I had to give it to him in a dropper. So like I said he hasn't been a solid food fan. I just started pushing the solids a-since he's 7 mths old b- so I can see if the solids will help with his constipation. I started giving him his organic rice cereal but instead of mixing it with BM I would mix it w/ prune juice. Did that still I was sure no allergies have moved him to oatmeal cereal. So we are now on a strict BM, oatmeal cereal, and organic prunes, and appricots food schedule. The prune juice I found made hime VERY gassy/crampy which made hime even more uncomfortable and he never slept well with prune juice. I'm a massage therapist- So I've also been massaging the IT band area- there are meridans there that connect to the bowels. That has seem to reaaly help as well. Yes it has been a vicious battle that even though he is starting to go more frequent and not crying there still very thick and hard. My poor little man if its not one thing its another. Guest guest
Louise, I know the prune juice makes them gassy at first, but it will work. You have to try and get through the first real geassy period and it will stop. You can try giving some Mylicon for gas a couple of times a day, it's just simethicone(as my ped says it's like soapy water, lol) and it won't hurt him at all. We had a day or two of really bad fussing and then it was like a miracle, I swear. This might be a little more info then everyone cares to read, but Dom would be so bad he would bleed. We have never used anything but the prune juice and prunes since.
