Hi Sandy

I saw that you already got all the links to the info you are looking

for. Parents here always say that scanning is a breeze. Let us

know how Dex does, and how severe his plagio is.

facial and ear asymmetries usually take longer to correct then the flatness in the back of the head. We noticed this with na. na went from 9 mm ear asymmetry to 4 mm. Her cranial vault went from 11 mm to 3 mm.

Hi, you will see the rounding first and then everything else slowly

follows behind. I think the ears are the last to come into place(

someone correct me if I'm wrong). With Dominick (6 weeks in Doc) we

are seeing the back rounding and just last week he began growth on

the side of the head, but eyes and ears are still out, so I think

what you are experiencing is normal. Which reminds me of a question

on eyes I have to post, thanks, lol.

Unfortunately the first two weeks can be up and down, they want it to

fit just right. Now I use a Doc, so maybe some of the Starbanders can

help you a little more with how many adjustments it took at the

beginning. We have had some moms post pictures of the baby in the

band, pointing out any areas of concern, in the files so we can all

look at them and add our two cents about what we think is right or

wrong, maybe you can do that. Sometimes it helps to have different

eyes looking at it and gives you more specific questions to ask your

ortho. Set up a folder under plagiokids in the files here with your

sons name and post that it is there.

Hello, and welcome to the group. Sometimes the first few days/wks

can be kind of rocky. How much experience does your ortho have in

treating plagio. I would give it a few more days, and see how it

goes with the fit, but don't wait too long b/c this is all lost

time. If the band can't be fitted well in the next adjustment or 2,

you might want to consider them making a new one. Make sure they

have experience with them.

Adjustments are necessary it accomodate for growth, but shouldn't

make the helmet fit worse. Two weeks seems like a long time to

still be trying to get that good fit. Can you post pictures of the

band on your baby? I'm wondering if it is a good fit. Does it look

symmetrical? It should sit just above the brow line. If you can't

post pics, check out other good fitting band pics. If it's a

STARband, go to www.orthomerica.com to see how they should fit.

Generally adding anything to the inside of a band is a big red flag.

Facial features and ears are the last thing to correct. With a good

fitting band you should see results though.

Hi Patti -

Ian is gorgeous. My son Sam will get his STARband on Wednesday (I think that we picked out the same design that you picked for Ian). We are a bit anxious.

Wish you much success with Ian’s treatment.

he will wear it one hour on and then one hour off but not for sleeping

Thank you! He is my little sunshine :)

I was very nervous today but it all

went well. When we went to pick it

up they had to fit it which meant cutting

off some of the band around the ears and

face and on top. Ian cried when they put

it on him and marked where to cut. Today

after we got home He did well wearing it

one hour on and one hour off. We will see

how tomorrow goes. I think the

design we got was called sky. How old is your little Sam?

Is there pics of him online? I hope all goes well

Wednesday. I just keep thinking it is only for a short time

and he will be graduated and he will have a nice round head :)

Yup, sky is the one we picked. I do have two pictures of him under Sam. Was just testing the upload process. Will add helmet photo tomorrow and try to get a good picture of his flat spot. How is Ian doing today?

Hi ,

My daughter Sophie has been in her STARband for 14 weeks. We have had

great rounding and are very pleased with the improvement that we have

seen. She has only grown 3/8 of an inch in head circumfrance but the

helmet has helped round out her flat spot. Sophie has moderate tort

and we finally have her in PT and are working with her low muscle

tone. She didn't start crawling on her hands and knees until she was

almost 11 months so she is behind in motor skills. I personally would

be very hesitant to give my baby botox shots. I would continue the

therapy and chiropractic care. Sophie has seen a chiro, PT and Cranial

Sacral Therapist. All three have made a big difference in different

ways. Good luck with your fitting!!

My son also tolerated his starband for the first few hours and

then.... turns out he had an ear infection, once we treated it the

night went fine. He has been wearing it for just a few days but he

seems not to mind the helmet, even the sweating.
