Hi Lauri,

The STARscanner is pretty expensive. I think with licensing and

software and all it runs about $50,000 or so. Not all Orthotists

can spend this much money, or band enough babies to get ROI. If

your Ortho has one I would take it as a good sign. It probably

means, they do quite a few plagio babies.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for responding! That is very encouraging!! Like I

said, this is the same office as the other little boy in Brady's

daycare went to, I will call his mom tomorrow to find out what type

of band it is.

Thanks again! Lauri

Hi Lauri

What type of band is it that you are getting? When you say football

helmet, is it completely closed, or does it have an opening on top?

I thing the scanning vs. casting is prefrance, and cost. My

daughter was casted, and it's only a few minutes that they aren't

too happy, but nothing major. Let us know how it goes, and what

type of band you are getting.

Lauri, We went to an Orthomerica provider that had a

STARscanner/STARband. It was fast and easy. He was scanned 3x just

to make sure they had the best image. (few seconds each). Colin

could even have his paci in his mouth while it was done which helped

him stay still. Good luck and take care.

My Daughter, , got her band through Hanger (Hanger cranial band)

and they use the Insignia scanner, which is very easy and quick. I

don't know too much about the STARscanner, but with the Insignia

scanner at Hanger, your baby sits in your lap and is scanned with a

handheld laser scanner which actually allows for movement due to the

tracking devices. So, your baby doesn't need to be perfectly still

the whole time. Our Orthotist scanned her head twice to make sure he

got the best scan possible.

As far as the casting, I can't speak from personal experience, but

from what I've heard it really isn't that bad. It lasts about 10

minutes or so and can be just as accurate as the scanning.

Good luck!

Jen :)

Hi Sandy!

I looked at the little boy's helmet today at daycare. It is light

blue and there is an opening at the top. There is a possible latch

underneath his neck, looking like a football helmet. His mom came in

but she didn't know the name of it. Any ideas??

Thanks, Lauri
